I’d like to share my story.

Being this vulnerable is uncomfortable for me, but I ask my athletes to be willing to push their comfort zones, so I believe I should as well.

If you have the time, take a listen.

Greatness has a price tag.

And most people choose not to pay it.
Or they try to barter.

It’s easy to want to stand on the podium, wear the ring, or get the jacket.
But wanting the result and being willing to pay the daily price are two very different things.

Greatness is paid for in:
- Extra reps, especially when you’re tired.
- Staying driven, even though you’re frustrated.
- Doing the boring, unglamorous things, when no one is watching.

Try this:
When setting your next big goal, name the 3 daily habits required to reach it. If you aren’t willing to commit to the habit, you aren’t ready for the goal. by @mindbodycheer

I wish more parents knew this 👇

Cheer isn’t really about getting over a mental block, making their dream team, or bringing home a jacket.

It’s about what happens in the background while they try:
👉 How they handle a setback when things don’t go their way
👉 How they support a teammate who is struggling
👉 How they talk to themselves when they fall short

One day, your child won’t remember how many championships they won, their spot in the routine, or even the name of all their teammates.

But the character, resilience, and mindset they build in the process will stay with them for life.

When you look at your athlete today, are you focused on the skill, or the person they’re becoming in the process?

Do you feel that tension right now?

We carry so much stress in our bodies that we don’t even realize we’re holding onto it.

One of the most effective ways to support ourselves emotionally is to release physical tension first.

Take 30 seconds and follow these simple prompts.

Hear me out …

When happiness becomes the metric of your parenting success,
every uncomfortable emotion feels like a crisis.

The natural impulse is to step in, clear the hurdle, and restore peace.
But when we rescue our kids from discomfort, frustration, or doubt,
We unintentionally rob them of the exact practice required to build emotional capacity.

True, lasting confidence isn’t built by avoiding hard feelings.
It’s built when children realize they can feel uncomfortable, navigate the friction, and come out fine on the other side.

Loving them well doesn’t mean removing the struggle. It means staying steady while they build the strength to move through it. by @mindbodycheer

I wish more cheerleaders knew that changing one small word in your head can change how nerves feel on the mat.

You’re in the warm-up room and your stunt hits the mat. Your group looks at one another with big eyes, trying to figure out what went wrong. Voices start to snap at someone starts to point fingers. Then a thought shows up, “We fell in warm-ups, so we’re going to fall on the floor.”

Your heart starts racing, and you try everything you can to push the feeling away.

But what if you didn’t need to fight your feelings and instead, change one small word?

Try accepting what is true, “We fell in warm-ups…” and change the so to AND.
… AND we’ve hit this stunt hundreds of times.
… AND we get to reset before we step on the floor.
….AND I can focus on one piece of the routine at a time.

The next time you catch yourself spiraling, let the feeling show up, AND let your training have the last word.

Save this for competition season and follow @mindbodycheer for more.

This is the saddest sentence in cheer ➡️

“They had so much potential.”

Most of those team cared deeply.

Everyone in the room knew what needed to change. So why does a team with so much potential fall short?

Usually it happens because the athletes are waiting for someone else go to first.

If you’re on a team with the drive to be better, here’s my challenge to you ➡️ go first!

Be the first on the mat
Be the first to arrive
Be the first to hold yourself accountable
Be the first to lead
Be the first to celebrate a teammate
Be the first to reach out

When one person starts, the whole room gets permission to follow.

It’s leadership like this that makes every single part of this work worth it. 💛

Watching what @briannekocken has built with @cheercorejags —and continues to build—is nothing short of inspiring.

My mission has always been to support gym owners who are fiercely committed to building a champion-minded culture, the kind that gives athletes unshakable confidence on the mat, and real life skills off of it.

To think this all started with a simple coffee date years ago…
I feel so honored to walk alongside her and the Cheer Core family today (yes, I am looking at you @coacht.hill ).

To all the gym owners doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes: I see you. You’re doing amazing. And I’m proud of you. by @mindbodycheer

If you lay in bed replaying every mistake,
you might be an anxious high-achiever.

And if you’re like me,
you probably wear that label with a badge of honor.

But here’s what’s really happening:
➡️ Your nervous system is stuck in threat mode.
➡️ Replaying the day feels like the only way to protect yourself.
➡️ But this hyper vigilance has a dark-side.

Sure, you achieve amazing things.
People even compliment you on your work ethic.
But you and I know how exhausting it is.

Learning to turn off your brain and accept
GOOD ENOUGH (gasp—I know, how dare I!?)…
is the ticket to a happier, more fulfilling life.

Who else is working toward this goal right now? ❤️ by @mindbodycheer

She threw it Tuesday, but balked yesterday.

Why does this happen?

Capacity is more than what an athlete can physically do.
It’s also how well she can focus when it counts.
And how quickly she recovers when something goes wrong.

Pressure is the weight she carries into the skill.
Whether real or perceived.

If she isn’t confident, it’s time to find out which part of the equation needs work.

Spoiler Alert: It’s usually both.

If she has the skill but has a negative comment about herself after every rep, you’re looking at a capacity issue.

If she throws her skills with ease in private lessons but freezes in class or at practice… that’s pressure.

I can already hear you, “But I’m not putting any pressure on her.”
That’s why I said real and perceived.

Often times pressure is the fear of failure, fear of judgment, or the athlete comparing themselves to others.

Sometimes you have to go digging and find out what’s making her gears turn.

Remember, you can’t force an athlete to change the way she thinks, but you can make sure she isn’t carrying alone. by @mindbodycheer

The culture you build follows athletes for the rest of their lives.

I’ve worked with hundreds of programs around the world, I can tell the difference immediately between a team that’s just talented and one that is going to be truly transformative for their athletes.

Here are the 5 signs your team culture is actually changing lives:

1️⃣ No one is made to feel weird for caring.
Your teammates can “go big” and be “extra” without being thought of as a try-hard. Nobody gets shamed for caring deeply, working extra, or taking risks.

2️⃣ Accountability is peer-to-peer
The team doesn’t wait for the coach to enforce the standard. They hold themselves and one another accountable in a build-you-up, “how can I help?” sort of way.

3️⃣ Your most talented athletes work the hardest
Rather than acting like they are better than anyone else, your highest-skilled athletes set the work ethic standard and help their teammates meet it.

4️⃣ Authentic celebration (This is what I notice in the first 10 minutes)
Teammates genuinely celebrate one another’s success. You see constant physical anchoring—high-fives, fist bumps, hugs, and tight huddles. They are rooting for one another rather than stressing about sizing one another up.

5️⃣ The energy in the gym is contagious
Practice is loud, intentional, and electric. There is a shared level of passion for details and for excellence that you can feel the moment you walk in.

If you’re a coach looking to use cheer as a tool to elevate your athletes’ lives and hit a new level on the mat…

📌 Save this post to audit your team’s culture at your next practice.
