It’s time to introduce ourselves !

We’re Jeanette & PeeJay husband and wife, cofounders of Mindful Motel, and honestly two people who built something we desperately wished existed during one of the hardest chapters of our lives.

For years we moved constantly. Since Amelia was born, we’ve lived in more than 13 apartments and houses. Then in 2019 everything changed.

Jeanette got incredibly sick. Pneumonia twice. Constant ear infections. Exhaustion we couldn’t explain. The home we thought would be our forever home slowly became the thing making us unwell. When we finally pulled parts of it apart, we discovered hidden black mold covered beneath layers of paint.

That experience changed us completely.

We started learning everything we could about mold, air quality, water filtration, fragrances, cleaning products, materials, and how much our environments actually impact our health, sleep, stress, and daily lives.

While building our next home, we spent years moving between Airbnbs and rentals and kept asking the same question:
“Why is it so hard to find a place that actually feels good to stay in?”

Not “wellness” in the curated Instagram way.
Just spaces with cleaner air, cleaner water, lower-tox products, no mold, and environments designed to help people genuinely relax.

So quietly, through late nights, stress, grief, work, learning, and figuring things out as we went… we started building something around that idea.

That became Mindful Motel.

And once the house was built, watching PeeJay bring it all to life through hospitality, design, and guest experience honestly blew me away. What started from survival slowly became something beautiful.

This is one of the most personal things we’ve ever created because it came from a chapter that was genuinely hard. But maybe the best businesses don’t come from spotting a market opportunity.

Maybe they come from trying to build the thing you wish existed when you needed it most. Thanks for following along ❤️ by @mindfulmotel

My husband wanted an espresso machine for YEARS. We’ve been living the French press life, so for our anniversary I finally got him a Fellow.

Then I made him wait SIX WEEKS to open it because I needed to film the unboxing. Apparently the traditional anniversary gift is patience. 😂

Now we’re weighing coffee to the exact gram and telling a machine our elevation. We used to pour hot water into a jug. Now our coffee needs our location and a small background check.

Naturally, we’re using our house favorite, Purity Coffee. Very particular about the beans. Slightly less particular about my husband’s emotional wellbeing during the six-week filming embargo. ☕️

I just wanted crispy potatoes. Somehow, I ended up investigating the entire internet for an air fryer. 😂

At Mindful Motel, we care about what touches our food, so glass and stainless steel are high on our kitchen wish list.

A few options to explore 👆 But look beyond the bowl: trays, racks and accessories matter too. A glass cooking vessel doesn’t tell you what every other part is made from.

Save this for your next kitchen upgrade and check the exact model’s materials before buying.

Because choosing an air fryer apparently comes with homework. 💓💕

We’ve driven through Hawks Nest more times than I can count, always saying, “We should stop for a photo.”

Today, we finally did. And honestly… what were we waiting for? 🍂

Autumn colour, the Delaware River winding below, and the most beautiful blue sky. Even the drive up feels like part of the weekend away.

Coming to stay at Mindful Motel? Leave a little extra time for this stop. You’ll understand why we finally pulled over. 💓

Your dog’s autumn agenda: sniff every leaf. Eat something questionable. Look innocent.

Gus would like everyone to know that “leave it” is ruining his seasonal dining experience.

At Mindful Motel, dogs are family. So alongside the cosy blankets and woodland walks, we’re sharing two guides worth keeping: autumn treats and hazards, plus what to do when your dog seems unwell.

Swipe through, save for your next adventure, and send to the person whose dog treats every walk like an all-you-can-eat buffet.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve had to tell your dog to drop?

General guidance only, contact your vet for advice about your dog.

Puppy and leaf watch at Father’s Forest today. Gus wasn’t well last night, so we’re taking it easy with these autumn views. This boy needs to stop sampling every random thing outside. You’d think we never fed him. He’s still mad cute.

Pumpkin picking, cider doughnuts and a little Catskills autumn air. We’ve rounded up pumpkin patches and fall farm outings to explore while staying at Parkside Den. Pick a spot, check their opening hours and make a day of it.

Fall is a good excuse to stay a little longer.

Another purity coffee before getting dressed. A scenic drive with no particular destination. A walk that takes twice as long because you keep stopping to look at the trees.

Then back to Parkside Den for a deep bath, the fire on and something good for dinner.

There’s plenty to do in the Catskills. We’re equally fond of doing very little.

We’ve reached the stage of adulthood where a pink wipe dispenser brings us actual joy. Nobody warned us.

Get Biom and Branch Basics have earned their spots by the Mindful Motel sink. Handy for the crumbs, spills and inevitable coffee ring five minutes after we’ve cleaned.

We spent far too long choosing this tile to have an ugly bottle sitting in front of it.

Your leftovers deserve better than a plastic tub that’s been orange since the spaghetti incident of 2019.

At Mindful Motel, we love glass storage. Less plastic touching our food, fewer lingering smells, and you can actually see what’s inside without opening a mystery box and calling for backup.

Small swaps. Better habits. Slightly more glamorous leftover potatoes.

Better, not perfect.
