I AM THE GOAL. NOT THE GOALS I SET 💭

There's a psychological concept called The Arrival Fallacy that I think more people need to understand.

It's the belief that happiness, fulfilment or feeling enough is waiting for us somewhere in the future.

When I lose the weight.
When I get the promotion.
When I earn more money.
When I finish that race.

THEN I'll be happy. THEN I'll feel successful.

But what happens when you get there?

You celebrate, enjoy the moment, and before long the goalposts move. Another target, another challenge, another thing to chase with the emptiness chasing behind.

I've spent a huge part of my life chasing improvement. In my career, in sport, in business and, most importantly, in myself.

And I've no intention of stopping.

But something I've learned has completely changed how I approach ambition.

I AM THE GOAL. NOT THE GOALS I SET.

For me, that's the antidote to the Arrival Fallacy.

It shifts my thinking from being outcome driven to direction driven.

An outcome is something I want to achieve.

A direction is how I choose to live.

I can chase ridiculous goals and give everything I've got to achieving them. But the result doesn't have to determine my worth or happiness.

Because I'm building something along the way.

Discipline. Resilience. Confidence. Better habits. Better relationships. A better understanding of myself.

And none of those things require a finish line to matter.

This isn't about lowering standards or settling for less. Far from it.

It's about recognising that you can be proud of who you are today whilst still working towards who you want to become tomorrow.

You can chase excellence without constantly chasing validation.

And you can enjoy the life you're living rather than treating today as a waiting room for some imaginary better tomorrow.

I'll always have goals. Big ones.

But I refuse to make my happiness conditional on achieving them.

The goals give me something to aim for.

The direction gives me someone to become.

And that someone is the real goal. by @mindmastersscotland

Some people will never understand what you're trying to do.

They'll laugh at the videos.

Question your ambitions.

Scoff with their friends at your goals

Call you cringe for putting yourself out there.

Maybe even think you've lost the plot.

And you know what? Let them.

I've learned that some of the best things I've ever done in my life started with an idea that probably looked fucking ridiculous to somebody else.

But here's the thing...

You don't need everyone to understand your vision. You need to believe in it enough to keep showing up when nobody else does.

Keep learning. Keep failing. Keep getting back up. Keep being willing to look a little foolish while you figure it all out.

Because the alternative?

Spending your life playing small, worrying about what people might think, and wondering what could have been.

I'd rather be called cringe for trying than spend my life regretting that I never did.

And remember, you don't need to prove everyone wrong.

You just need to stop proving your own doubts right.

Be Bold, be italic, be f*cking different.

Keep going. ❤️ by @mindmastersscotland

This morning, everything felt heavy.

Nothing dramatic happened.
No crisis. No big moment.

I just woke up with a lot on my mind.

And I knew what would help.

Get outside.
Run.
Get into the hills.
Move my body and give my head some space.

So naturally… I avoided it.

I lay on the couch.
Put it off.
Found reasons not to go.

And the longer I stayed there, the heavier everything became.

Eventually I stopped negotiating with myself.

Got dressed.
Got in the car.
And went.

A thousand feet up, legs working, lungs working, and the strange thing is…

the problems haven't disappeared.

But their weight has.

My head is clearer.
Things are finding their place again.

And it made me think about how much of life we lose in that gap between knowing what we need to do and actually doing it.

A couple of hours this morning doesn't sound like much.

But how many of those hours do we collect?

Until they become days.

Weeks.

Years.

Avoiding the conversation.
Putting off the training.
Not making the decision.
Not asking for help.
Not starting the thing we know we need to start.

Sometimes the thing you're avoiding isn't another weight to carry.

It's the thing that helps you put the weight down.

I needed reminded of that today.

Maybe someone else does too. by @mindmastersscotland

You already know.

That's the fucking tragedy of it.

You don't need another podcast.

Another book.

Another video from me.

Another conversation where somebody tells you what you already know you need to do.

You know.

You know that living for Friday and spending the weekend escaping isn't making you happy.

You know the behaviours you're using to numb yourself are taking more from you than they're giving back.

You know you're not sleeping properly.

You know you're restless.

You know you're becoming harder to live with.

You know you're not fully present with the people who matter.

You know there are conversations you're avoiding.

Decisions you're refusing to make.

Truths about your life you've become fucking brilliant at talking around.

And still...

You wait.

For Monday.

For January.

For things to calm down.

For motivation.

For somebody to save you.

For it to somehow become easier to make the decision you've known for months, sometimes years you need to make.

How bad does it need to get?

How much peace do you need to lose?

How many relationships need to suffer?

How many mornings do you need to wake up disappointed in yourself?

How much of the person you once were do you need to watch disappear before you finally decide:

Enough.

Because eventually there's a cost to staying where you are.

And some of you reading this are already paying it.

I can't make the decision for you.

Neither can your partner.

Your mates.

Your family.

A coach.

A therapist.

Nobody.

People can support you.

Stand beside you.

Help you understand what's underneath it.

But eventually there comes a moment where you have to choose...

What you value most !

And if this pisses you off...

Good.

Don't argue with me.

Don't send me another message telling me you know, or asking me for help knowing you won't do anything anyway.

Don't save this post and carry on exactly as you were.

Go somewhere quiet and ask yourself:

What is this life already costing me?

Then ask the question that matters even more:

How much more am I willing to pay? by @mindmastersscotland

I've learned this one the hard way.

Your environment will either feed the person you're trying to become… or keep feeding the person you're trying to leave behind.

And environment isn't just where you live.

It's who you spend time with.
The conversations you're part of.
The group chats.
The voices you listen to.
The shit you consume every day.

Spend enough time around people who complain about everything and eventually everything starts looking like a problem.

Spend enough time around people who blame everyone else and eventually responsibility starts feeling optional.

But it works the other way too.

Get around people who move.
People who challenge themselves.
People who talk about ideas instead of other people.
People who genuinely want to see you win.
People who tell you the truth when you need to hear it.

And something changes.

You change.

I've seen this through running.
Through men's groups.
Through breathwork.
Through coaching.
Through the communities I've been lucky enough to build and be part of.

Sometimes people don't need another fucking motivational quote.

They need a different room.

And here's the bit we often forget...

You are part of somebody else's environment too.

So while you're asking whether the people around you bring out the best in you...

Ask yourself an even harder question:

What do people get more of after spending time with me?

Belief or doubt?
Energy or exhaustion?
Possibility or limitation?
Connection or judgement?
Feeling good or feeling like shit?

Find your people.

But make damn sure you're becoming one of those people too. by @mindmastersscotland

Someone asked me a question last week that caught me completely off guard.

“Are you holding onto this too tightly?”

My first reaction was probably resistance.

Because when something matters to us, when we've been hurt, disappointed, angry, worried or desperate for something to work out, being told to “let it go” can feel almost insulting.

But that wasn't really what they were asking me.

They weren't asking me to forget it.

Or pretend it didn't matter.

They were asking me whether I could loosen my grip on it.

And I've thought about that a lot since.

Because when we grip something tightly enough, eventually we're not just holding the thing anymore.

The thing starts holding us.

It follows us into bed.

Into conversations.

Into relationships.

Into work.

Into the way we feel and react to the people around us.

It takes up space in our head even when nothing is actually happening.

And maybe letting go doesn't always mean dropping it completely.

Maybe that's too big a leap right now.

Maybe today you just loosen your grip by 5%.

Create a little space between you and it.

Enough to breathe.

Enough to think.

Enough to notice the rest of your life happening around you.

Enough to begin asking what comes next.

I don't know what you're carrying right now.

A relationship.

A mistake.

Something someone did to you.

Something you did.

A situation you can't control.

A version of how you thought your life was supposed to turn out.

But maybe you don't need to solve it today.

Maybe there's a smaller question worth asking:

What might change in my life if I stopped holding onto this quite so tightly?

You don't have to drop it.

Just see what happens when you loosen your grip. by @mindmastersscotland

Pssst.. yeah you..

Just wanted to tell you something..

Thank you.

Thank you for the messages, the feedback, the kindness and support.

It was never a clear path this..

While trying to shape the service I wanted to be to the world it was really messy.

When i first started getting my certificates and supposed validation in the wellness world, behind the scenes I was swimming against constant waves.

I was losing people and finding new ones.

I was suffocating in some parts of my life and thriving in others.

I was learning, growing and making loads of mistakes.

At the core was an issue with trust, shame and being enough.

I was being let down by people who should have known better.

I was made the bad guy in their stories without ever having a chance to defend myself.

Despite it, I kept showing up, kept leaning in.

Kept turning the pages of my book not sure what would be written next.

And eventually I went through the ceiling..

I found out what mattered and what didnt.

Everything got smaller or tighter, my circle..

My people pleasing.

And my f*cking boundaries.

Being my best version became my compass.

I learned about values and i leaned in there too.

Things gathered pace.

The more value led I became the more my path lit up.

Coaching , leadership, breathwork , leadership, performance, I leaned in and kept leaning in.

i felt open for it all.

And my stramgers followed.

You !

You found me, through a video, a message, a podcast episode, a breathwork..

It pushed a button in you and you leaned in too.

I am here for it.

I am ALL IN.

I HOPE you are ALL IN TOO!

My mission with this page, this brand is to help, heal and share.

If it is for you then take it, if it is not for you, leave if.

Cause here is the thing, I am proof things can turn out amazing.

Everyone i meet and work with have evidence too.

We dont need to stay stuck.

We dont need to be alone.

Let's go !!

Thank You

••• since finishing the GB Ultras Slam in June (if we ignore the casual 100miler for fun in July 👀🫠) I’ve been trying to work on repair, recover, relax. Actually listening to my body and doing the training that I can, when I can…instead of all the bits I can’t, when I can’t. Because what happens is I ignore the can’t and just do it anyway or beat myself up over it and ultimately I just end up shattered. Turns out the recovery thing works.

Anyway, when given the chance to shut my eyes and lie down for a few hours in a stunner of a town hall, I jumped at the chance. Definitely counts as recovery.

I met @itsjustkev78 a little over a year ago now, funnily enough at @race_across_scotland - we were volunteering at the same check point and you know that way when you just know you like someone. He’s the type of guy who instantly you are at ease with, can laugh and joke but also, unfortunately for him, can also tell your hardest truths to as well… and you just know they’ll be safe.
You don’t meet many people like that in life really.

Fast forward a year, another even more significant Race Across Scotland 🖤 and then we are here. He’s played a major role in a lot of important life bits this year, and I was delighted for him that this event went so bloody well. It really was an excellent night.

I’ll be thinking of a lot of the things it brought to the surface for a while and will address these in due course, but really, this is just a post to mark my appreciation for someone I’d absolutely call a friend. And you should always shout for your friends.
Well done Kev, thank you, and everyone else? Give him a follow please @mindmastersscotland 🫶🏼 taken in Troon Town Hall by @mindmastersscotland

There are moments in our lives where we have more questions than answers.

There are moments where we have more weight on our shoulders than freedom in our lives.

More doubts than hopes.

More setbacks than steps forward.

I am learning than all of this and more are simply chapters in the story.

Sometimes I feel I have the pen to write the pages and sometimes it feels they are being written for me.

I don't always know or like what is written but I do know I cant give up.

I can't stop writing..

You are uniquely beautiful.

There is noone like you.

The past is gone, the future is undecided and what you have is right here right now.

You are living it.

Breathing it.

You may not have the answers.

Your not supposed to.

But you have so much more control over your decisions than you are likely giving yourself credit for.

I beg of you this one thing..

Quit spending so much time and emotions on the wrong things..

Quit being so hard on yourself..

You are not your wounds..

You are not your mistakes or your past.

Believe in yourself, trust yourself..

Find spaces and community to support you write the next pages.

And of course in true Kevin fashion.

If you are going to go...

You go ALL IN.

Big Love

I've struggled all day to find the words for what I witnessed last night.

Nearly 90 people came together..

We created a bubble, a safe place..

A place to feel and a place to heal.

People from all walks of life, all different stories.

I asked people to go all in..

I promised I would to.

I abandoned scripts and devices and led from my heart not my head.

I felt something really special brewing as we spoke together before the breathwork started.

The venue was one I had wanted to do something in for such a long time and it matched my hopes.

Seeing people working through it all..

The mess, the questions and the hope is something i never grow tired of.

We get one go at this.. we have to work it out.

The breathwork may not the be the thing thay does it.

But wow does it have the potential to help you open doors within you that might move you forward.

Thank you to everyone who attended..

There's a lonely chapter of changing your life that nobody really prepares you for.

You start wanting different things.

Thinking differently.

Certain conversations don't feel the same anymore.

Places you once loved don't quite fit.

People you've known for years might still matter deeply to you… but you realise you're heading in different directions.

And suddenly you find yourself somewhere in the middle.

You've outgrown parts of your old world, but you haven't found all of your new one yet.

I've experienced this myself.

There have been times I've missed old friendships, old places and even old versions of me.

And that space between the two can feel fucking lonely.

It can make you question yourself.

Am I changing too much?

Why don't I fit anymore?

Where are my people?

But I've learned to trust that chapter.

Because slowly, almost without noticing, you start finding them.

The person you can have that conversation with.

The person who understands what you're building.

The running friend.

The business friend.

The person you can be vulnerable with.

The person who challenges you.

The person who just gets it.

I don't think we necessarily find one perfect "tribe."

I've realised I have different people in different corners of my life.

And somehow, as I've become clearer about who I am and where I'm going, those people have started finding their way into my life too.

So if you're currently standing somewhere between who you were and who you're becoming...

Don't panic and run back simply because the old world feels familiar.

Keep going.

Keep showing up as the person you're becoming.

Your world has changed before your surroundings have caught up.

Give them time to catch up. ❤️ by @mindmastersscotland
