Some musicians look at this image and think: that's not me yet.

I completely understand that.

But here's what I want you to know:
The musicians who feel the furthest from this are often the ones who are closest to a real shift. They just don't have the right support yet.

Because the gap between who you are in the practice room and who shows up on stage isn't a talent gap.

It's a training gap.
It's:
— practicing hard without a clear system
— preparing for performances without preparing for pressure
— leaving every audition wondering what went wrong
— carrying the mental weight of it all completely alone
— spending more energy doubting yourself than developing yourself

This program is not about adding more to your plate.
I designed it to make everything you're already doing work better.

Inside the program, you learn:
✦ how to practice with intention so every session actually counts
✦ how to prepare for pressure the way elite performers do
✦ how to stop spiraling after a hard performance or audition
✦ how to build confidence that doesn't collapse when the stakes go up
✦ how to move your career forward with structure and clarity

And the thing that surprises most musicians once they're inside?

They don't feel busier. They feel freer. Because when you stop battling yourself internally, you stop hemorrhaging energy. And suddenly everything else gets easier too.

If this speaks to you, I'd love to talk.
MME begins June 1st.

Some musicians hesitate to join MME (The Music Mastery Experience) because they already feel stretched thin.

I completely understand that.

But here’s something I see all the time:

The musicians who feel the most overwhelmed are often the ones who need support the most.

Because the issue usually isn’t laziness or lack of discipline.

It’s:
– carrying too much mentally
– overthinking constantly
– practicing without clarity
– trying to solve everything alone
– spending huge amounts of emotional energy second-guessing themselves

MME is not designed to become “one more thing on your plate.”

I designed it to help everything ELSE feel clearer, calmer, and more effective.

Inside the program, musicians learn:
✔ how to practice more efficiently
✔ how to prepare for pressure intentionally
✔ how to stop spiraling after performances
✔ how to trust themselves more consistently
✔ how to move forward with structure and clarity

And ironically?

Many musicians end up feeling like they have more time and energy because they stop wasting so much of it battling themselves internally.

If this speaks to you, I’d love to talk. One conversation. Zero commitments.

The Music Mastery Experience begins June 1.

There comes a point where practicing harder is no longer the answer.

You’ve put in the hours.
You care deeply.
You know how to work.

And yet… under pressure, something still shifts.

Your mind gets louder.
Your body gets tighter.
Your playing starts feeling less like you.

That gap can feel incredibly confusing when you KNOW what you’re capable of.

The truth is, most musicians were never taught how to prepare for pressure.
They were taught how to prepare music.

Inside The Music Mastery Experience, my signature group coaching program, I help musicians finally perform under pressure the way they know they can.

Not through perfection.
Not through pretending nerves disappear.
But through a completely different relationship with preparation, performance, and themselves.

The result?

More self-trust.
More consistency.
More freedom on stage.
And finally feeling like YOU when it matters most.

We begin June 1.

Book your Clarity Call today and let's find out if this is right for you. One conversation. No pressure.

instead of asking:
“What’s the perfect practice system?”

Try asking:
“What actually works for me?”

Your schedule is a tool. You’re allowed to adjust it as your priorities, needs, and season change. 🎻

Save this for the next time your beautifully planned practice week… doesn’t go according to plan.

And follow @mindoverfinger for more thoughtful ways to practice, perform, and build a fulfilling life in music.

Most musicians fall into the "Wishful Thinking" trap: repeating a difficult passage 50 times fast, hoping muscle memory will magically save them.
Here’s the problem: Doing does not equal skill.

When you practice without mental clarity, your brain wraps around the wrong habits. You are literally locking in mistakes.

Next time you hit a wall in the practice room:
1️⃣ Pause – Don't move your fingers yet.
2️⃣ Conceptualize – Hear the exact goal in your mind's ear.
3️⃣ Evaluate – Ensure every repetition brings improvement or insight.

With you every step of the way,
Renée 💛

One thing I find myself reminding musicians of again and again:
Repetition is important. But repetition without intention can only take you so far.

When something doesn’t work, our instinct is often to play it again. And again. And again.

But before the next repetition, try asking yourself:
What am I actually trying to change this time?

The goal isn’t just to repeat until something works. It’s to stay curious enough to notice why it works and what you might try when it doesn’t.
With you every step of the way,
Renée 💛

Maybe you thought you’d be further along by now.
More confident on stage.
Further into your repertoire.
More consistent in the practice room.
Closer to the musician you imagined you’d be.

So without realizing it, you start making plans from:
“I should be further along.”

You practice to catch up.
You set goals to close the gap.
You measure progress against a timeline that may not even fit you anymore.

But an effective plan needs an honest starting point.
Where are you? What’s working?
What needs your attention?
What do you actually want next?

Starting there doesn’t mean lowering your standards.

You can be ambitious about where you’re going without being at war with where you are today.

Start here. Then build from there.

🎧 Inspired by Episode 145 of The Mind Over Finger Podcast: Ten “Mistakes” Smart Musicians Make and How to Avoid Them.
Save this for the next time you feel like you need to “catch up.”

As musicians, we're very good at noticing the gap.

The passage that isn't ready yet.
The audition we wanted to feel better about.
The consistency we haven't quite found.
The progress we thought we'd have made by now.

And when we focus too much on that gap, it's easy to start planning from "I should be further along."

But a useful plan needs an honest starting point.

Take stock of where you are. Decide where you want to go. Then ask:
What would help me move from here to there?

You can be deeply ambitious about your growth without being at war with where you are today.

One of the easiest habits to fall into in the practice room is also one of the most familiar: Something doesn’t work, so we play it again and again

There’s nothing wrong with repetition. Repetition is part of how we learn.

But before you repeat something, it can be worth asking:
What am I actually trying to change this time?

Sometimes, a repetition simply gives you more information of what worked and what felt different.

And that information is progress, too.

🎧 I talk more about this idea in Episode 141 of the Mind Over Finger Podcast: Practice Room Superpower: Mind Over Finger.

It’s tempting to look at the distance between where you are and where you thought you’d be and call it failure.

Accepting your starting point isn’t the same as settling for it.
You can want more for your playing without constantly telling yourself you should already be there.

And you can build a practice plan around the musician you are today.
So before setting your goals for this season:
Notice what’s working.

Be honest about what isn’t.
Decide what you actually want.
And start there.

You don’t need to be further along to begin. You just need to begin from where you are.

With you every step of the way,
Renée 💛

When something isn’t happening the way we want it to, it can be so tempting to look for something that will give us the answer.

But before looking outside yourself, what if you paused for a moment?
You might be surprised by how much you already have within you to work with.

So here’s a question to take into your practice room this week:
If you knew you couldn’t mess it up, what would you try next?
Experiment with it. Stay curious. And see where it takes you.
With you every step of the way,
Renée 💛
