I love sports.

I love what they’ve given me, the people they’ve brought into my life, and the person they’ve helped me become.

I love watching kids chase big goals, do hard things, learn to trust themselves, and become part of something bigger than themselves.

I also know that sports life can be a little crazy.

The pressure.
The comparison.
The tryouts.
The playing time.
The car rides home when you have no idea what to say.
The constant question of whether you’re helping enough, helping too much, or somehow doing both at the same time.

I’m not standing outside of it with all the answers.

I’m a coach.
A former D1 athlete.
A mental performance coach.
And a sports mom right in the middle of it too.

This page is for the parents and athletes who want to get the most out of their experience.

Because I believe sports are supposed to build people, bring them together, and be a lot of fun.

And I want to help us keep it that way. by @mindovertalent

I don’t know anyone’s jersey number 😂

But somehow every girls lacrosse player I coach becomes instantly recognizable from their stick alone 😂

The tape.
The pocket.
The way they carry it.
The way they twirl it between reps.

Dead giveaway.

And honestly… every lacrosse coach watching this is probably thinking:
“I’d dominate this game.” 👀😂

If you’re new here, welcome. I’m glad you found this space.

I’m Janet, a mental performance coach working with athletes, parents, and coaches — most often in the girls lacrosse world.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that talent is only part of the equation.

Athletes also need tools to handle:
• pressure
• mistakes
• confidence swings
• expectations
• leadership moments

But very few athletes are ever actually taught these skills.

Mental performance training helps athletes learn how to:
• trust their preparation
• reset after mistakes
• stay steady under pressure
• compete with confidence

These are skills that can be practiced, just like stick work or footwork.

On this page you’ll find conversations about:
➡️ athlete mindset
➡️ supporting young athletes as parents
➡️ building strong team cultures as coaches

If that sounds like something that matters to you, you’re in the right place.

And if you want more tools, you can also get free mental performance tips through the link in my bio. 🧩 taken in Potomac, Maryland by @mindovertalent

They’re teammates, their brothers are teammates, and apparently spending the night together wasn’t enough because they spent the next day together on the sidelines too. 😂

There’s something so fun about the friendships that grow around youth sports. The teammates become friends. The siblings become friends. The parents become friends. And before you know it, everyone’s spending their weekends together whether they’re the ones playing or not.

This weekend, they were along for the ride.

Next weekend, we’ll be on the other sideline together. 🥍 by @mindovertalent

There was absolutely no way I could make today work by myself.

Eloise had field hockey. I had a practice I was supposed to coach. Mike had to work a rescheduled football game. The boys had lacrosse. Eloise had a team party.

And somehow, everyone got where they needed to go.

My assistant and co-head coaches covered practice so I could be at field hockey.

Friends drove to our house, picked up our kids, made sure they had everything they needed, got them to lacrosse and brought them home.

Another friend hosted Eloise’s team. Other parents brought pizza, planned activities, helped with the girls and made sure Eloise got where she needed to go next.

And all day I watched people do the same thing for other families. Who can take this kid? Who has room in their car? I can grab them. Send them with me.

It made me think about how often we say “it takes a village,” but today I actually watched the village at work.

None of us can be everywhere.

And I’m grateful that my kids are growing up surrounded by people who will show up for them when I can’t.

That was a good day. ❤️ by @mindovertalent

I understand why parents want that first tournament.

You finally get to see the team play. You get to see where your kid fits. You get to compare where they are now to where they were last year. And sometimes, you get answers to questions you’ve been wondering about for weeks.

But I also think we give those first few games A LOT of power.

A good weekend can make everything feel great. A bad weekend can suddenly have us questioning the coach, the team, the level, the role, all of it.

Meanwhile, weeks of development may already be happening at practice.

So yes, pay attention to what happens at the tournament.

Just don’t let one weekend outweigh everything you’ve already been seeing.

I am all for encouraging my kids.

I will cheer for them, help them, practice with them, drive them all over the place and remind them that they can do hard things.

But let them win?

Absolutely not. 😂

Maybe it’s the former athlete in me, but if you beat me, you’re going to know you actually beat me.

I mean, learning how to lose is an important lesson too, right?! 😂 by @mindovertalent

Turns out I didn’t lose all my college photos.

The ones I’ve been sharing were either saved in the cloud or sent to me by my college coach, @temple_coach_rosen . Shoutout to Bonnie for holding onto the good stuff for 20+ years. 😂

But these hard drives?

I genuinely have no idea what’s on them.

Technically practice was over.

This is what happens when the coaches have a post-practice meeting. 😂 by @mindovertalent

There is something about a tournament weekend.

You drive way too far. Pack way too much stuff. Spend most of your day on a sideline. Try to find somewhere good to eat. Come home exhausted.

And somehow, I still love them.

Or more casual, which I think sounds even more like you:

I know tournament weekends can be a lot.

But I love them. 🧩 taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @mindovertalent
