Hey team. We’re back 🦋

Being fully transparent, part of this return is for my FINAL assessment of my WHOLE ENTIRE DEGREE, the other part of this is I feel like I’ve got the capacity to come back at this with everything I’ve got.
(My final assessment is on social media critical analyses if anyone cares)

The last month has been the most stressful period of my life, and to be honest I don’t really know where I stand with myself. I feel really out of body and out of control in my head, body and life right now, so I’m trying to take each day as it comes and treat myself with patience and softness.

For those of you who are new, here’s my introduction, for those of you who have been here for a while, here’s what’s been going on.

I’ll share a bit more of where I’m at personally and physically over the next wee while because there’s a lot to catch up on ❤️‍🔥

Im excited to be back up and running, and to start sharing and educating again ✨🦋❤️‍🔥

Lil sappy one here.
Looking at my #gymshark66 challenge has got me reflecting on my gym journey and where I started.
It’s week 7 of this challenge, and this is the most commitment I’ve given to something in a while without letting it consume me.
I don’t have a very good history of self control, so doing this has really opened up so many positive feelings and truths about myself, and also reflects the growth I’ve made over the last few years.

This is a very condensed version of my journey. When you see people online living your dream, whether it’s through opportunities, body, lifestyle etc, they all started somewhere. Something triggered change and they went with it.

Nothing and no one is perfect. Failures build character, and if you can take every opportunity to learn and positively associate the outcome of the event, you will change your life.

Be patient with yourself, be kind, and learn to lean into boredom. Everything takes time.

When i look back at my journey so far it makes me so excited for what’s ahead, because if that much can change in 8 years, imagine what’s to come.

S/O @gymshark for being the go to for the last 7 years. I’m a firm believer that if you look good you feel good, gym wear has always been something I allow myself to purchase as it makes the difference to how I show up for myself at the gym.

Your own standards set yourself up for success or failure. If you look at someone that you admire, or aspire to be, look at what things they accomplish and set yourself some similar standards.

Small things that you hold yourself to help set you up for success 99% of the time. This means that the 1% when you can’t make it (because that’s life), doesn’t mean you’ve failed, it means life has happened and you know that you’ll try again tomorrow.

Set some healthy standards for yourself. Routines, hygiene, movement, relationships, and remind yourself of them every time you stray from the end goal.

Today is my 1 year anniversary of finding out I’d ruptured my ACL for a second time & tore both meniscus.

Im currently 10 months post op, so in light of 12 months of shambles, I wanted to share a lil bit about how this journey has been and what’s to come. Because it’s far from over.

My muscles deteriorated so fast, and I had to wear the brace 24/7 for 8 weeks after surgery. That was super uncomfortable and made it difficult to sleep or feel confident going out and about.

Learning how to walk, lift, move and support myself during this was very difficult.
I lost a pretty big sense of self during this, as a lot of my identity was tied to snowboarding & fitness, both of which I lost.
Also watching my muscles waste away, after the years of work put in was pretty disheartening.

I was not in a good space months 5-8, the knee was stagnant, sore, and I couldn’t engage my quad. All my friends had started snowboarding again, and I couldn’t even tense my quad muscle.

I would hate to know how many hours I’ve spent in the gym this year doing rehab alone, but what I can say is that it’s all worth it.
The opportunities, perspectives, and growth that have come from this forced period of rest have been incredible.

Somehow this year I’ve done more than any other year. Graduated, started 2 new jobs, opened doors to opportunities I didn’t even know existed, and have become so clear on myself, my values, and what I expect from life.

I’m back doing the things I love with the people I love, and distance definitely makes the best grow fonder because I never wanna stop.

Key takeaways if you’ve made it this far:
- timelines set you up for failure
- expect nothing, but put in the work like you want everything
- no one is coming to save you, you have to be the one to do the work
- surround yourself with people and places that want to see you succeed
- life is always going to keep coming. You either get on board or you get caught out
- pro activity and positivity will get you further than anything else
- there are opportunities in everything, it’s never a setback, it’s just a step sideways

Xx

A reminder,
Your body is a life long project, not an overnight success. Take the time you’ve got, create the consistency, and move in ways that you enjoy.

Come w me for my first pavement run, 10 months post ACL & meniscus repair 🫶🏼

This has been one of the most testing 10 months of my life. I’ve just started snowboarding again, and training at a capacity that is about 80% of pre surgery.

By this point in my rehab, I had expected to be much further based off my first ACL reconstruction and my fitness level pre surgery.
My graft site in my knee is still pretty unhappy, and my surgeon thinks there’s some tendinopathy in the patella.
This has been really really disheartening because at this point it doesn’t feel like I can do any more or any less.

Despite the frustration, the commitment to showing up to the gym has been the thing keeping me going, because I know that regardless of my knee, the rest of my body and mind do so much better after a session.

Injuries are really really hard, and things don’t ever go the way you expect them too. Some days showing up is really really hard, but then you have days like today and it reminds you why you put in so much effort 🦋

Every single day that you decide to push through and challenge yourself to go a little further, work a little harder and make decisions that are a little tougher, you end up changing your brains baseline level for what it perceives as difficult.

You’re only as capable as you allow yourself to believe you are, so if you believe you can do something, show up and prove to yourself you can. Push a yourself a little more every single chance you can get, and what your brain perceives as being difficult starts to become normal, allowing you to reach for more.

Get after it every single chance you can 🦋
