Chodesh Tov! Welcome to Tammuz, happy new moon in Gemini 🌙 ♊️ here’s what artist @salonikann shares about this month’s art:

“I always found Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ to be such a tender piece of art and I wanted to recreate it in my art style. My ancestors were Sephardim from the Balkans & West Asia, and I wanted the piece to reflect the culture of Jewry from these areas. The couple embracing wear loose embroidered kaftans and have henna dyed hands, which was common for Jews to be dawning at the time. Much of the Jewish traditions and culture in West Asia has been lost or assimilated due to Zionism, and I hope to bring more awareness about these traditions that are at risk of slipping away. I do not see much art that depicts non-white Ashkenazi Jews very often or in a positive light, and I want to be able to represent that in my art as I am incredibly proud of my ancestry.“ by @minoa.boy

Ruya’s faux psychosis
My character Ruya who I haven’t drawn in 2 years. With the loss of her mother & her father’s descent into mental illness she frequently gets intoxicated to push it all away. She’s begun seeing angels who talk to her, which she thinks she’s finally fallen into religious psychosis. However she hasn’t, and they are very much real. And she’s not ready to accept it

This took me like 3 days to work on, it’s the biggest piece I’ve done in awhile. Had a vision in my head for this for awhile. Inspired off of west Asian miniatures
