Chodesh Tov! Welcome to Tammuz, happy new moon in Gemini 🌙 ♊️ here’s what artist @salonikann shares about this month’s art:

“I always found Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ to be such a tender piece of art and I wanted to recreate it in my art style. My ancestors were Sephardim from the Balkans & West Asia, and I wanted the piece to reflect the culture of Jewry from these areas. The couple embracing wear loose embroidered kaftans and have henna dyed hands, which was common for Jews to be dawning at the time. Much of the Jewish traditions and culture in West Asia has been lost or assimilated due to Zionism, and I hope to bring more awareness about these traditions that are at risk of slipping away. I do not see much art that depicts non-white Ashkenazi Jews very often or in a positive light, and I want to be able to represent that in my art as I am incredibly proud of my ancestry.“
