Haunted Hues: Watercolor Journaling for Beginners with @mintscriptco

Enter the spooky and colorful world of watercolor in Haunted Hues: Watercolor Journaling for Beginners! This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to introduce students to the foundations of watercolor in a fun, relaxed, and approachable way. Participants will learn basic watercolor techniques such as blending, layering, creating washes, and adding simple details while exploring playful Halloween-inspired colors, textures, and themes.

Throughout class, students will experiment with watercolor through guided exercises before using the techniques they’ve learned to create their own spooky-themed journal spread. This workshop encourages creativity over perfection, helping students feel more confident exploring watercolor as a medium without fear of “messing up.”

By the end of class, attendees will leave with a finished seasonal journal spread, foundational watercolor skills, and the reminder that watercolor is meant to be playful, expressive, and imperfect in the best way.

Here’s a blurb of Emily Solis:

“I’m a hand lettering artist, illustrator, and educator based in Houston who loves helping people explore creativity in a fun and approachable way. Over the years, I’ve taught workshops focused on hand lettering, watercolor journaling, creative planning, and beginner-friendly art techniques for creative communities, stationery events, and craft spaces.

My workshops are designed to feel encouraging, low-pressure, and inspiring, whether someone is picking up a brush pen for the first time or rediscovering creativity through journaling and art. I’ve had the opportunity to teach workshops at Little Craft Place, and present at planner and stationery events including the Chicago Planner Conference and Little Craft Fest.”

Get ready to experience Emily’s stunning art and support local creativity. We can’t wait to see you there and celebrate together!

🎟️ Workshop registration opens on August 29 at 12 PM CT on our website, www.littlecraftplace.com. We’ll share pricing, schedules, and details ahead of time so you can plan before registration goes live.

You should be more afraid of wasting your life than embarrassing yourself- something that gets easier as I get older. My next goal is to record videos with my face in it 🫣 teaching in front of large crowds is not scary at all. Showing my face in a video = terrifying 🫪 taken in Houston, Texas by @mintscriptco

What if you could make your own decorative paper? 👀
If you’ve never tried gelli printing, I want to show you why I think you’re going to LOVE it.

A gelli plate lets you create beautiful, one-of-a-kind papers using acrylic paint, stencils, texture, and a little bit of experimentation. You layer your materials, pull a print, and reveal a completely unique piece of paper. ✨
And the best part? You don’t need to be an artist or know how to “do” gelli printing. That’s exactly what my workshop at Chicago Planner Conference is about!
We’ll play, experiment, and learn some simple techniques for creating your own stash of custom papers — papers you can actually USE for your stationery and creative projects.

Think:
✂️ Collage
💌 Greeting cards
📓 Journaling & planner pages
🎁 Gift tags & other paper projects
…and whatever else your creative brain comes up with!
I’ll walk you through the basics, we’ll make LOTS of prints, and then you’ll leave with tons of inspiration on how to use your prints at home.

So if you’ve been looking at the workshop list thinking, “Gelli printing sounds interesting… but what IS it?” — this is your sign to give it a try. 😉

✨ Workshop registration opens TOMORROW for @chicagoplannerconference attendees!

Come make a beautiful mess with me. 🎨

POV: you walk into Barnes & Noble and see packaging you designed sitting on the shelf. 🥲

When I started my creative business, I dreamed about having my artwork in stores like this.

So incredibly grateful to @zebrapen_usa for the opportunity and for all of the amazing projects along the way. 🤍 by @mintscriptco
