From the studio to backstage at Capital One Arena! Yesterday, I had the honor of going behind the scenes at the Cash Money & No Limit Tour in D.C., capturing content with the D.C. tour ambassador, DJ Dirty Rico @noisemakernation

Seeing him in the studio during the Happy Hour Mix with Vic Jagger and the midday shows is one thing, but watching him backstage in his element, hyping the crowd and connecting with artists was a whole different level!

I’m grateful for the opportunity to capture these moments and be part of such a legendary night.

A little recap of the last few days because whew… a time was HAD. 🥹

Today, Master P came through the station for interviews with our in-studio talent, and I got to shoot both interviews! 🎥 Then, I coordinated a StreamYard with our other Radio One markets so their talent could tap in and interview him as well. With Master P @masterp currently out on the No Limit x Cash Money Tour, getting to be behind the camera and help coordinate everything throughout the day was definitely one for the books!!

This Saturday, I had the opportunity to shoot an interview for the incredible Kirk Franklin @kirkfranklin Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, legend, and an amazing human. 🙏🏽

And we kicked things off at CBC, covering another major week in D.C. and creating content across our stations.

I’m just proud of myself, I thank God for all of the blessings I have received.

Can’t nobody tell me I don’t work or that I don’t put in the work, because I DO. I’m showing up, learning, creating, producing, coordinating, staying consistent, and continuing to bet on myself. Nobody works harder than Mi. 💅🏾

My first CBC and this is just the first 24 hours! This week has given me the opportunity to experience CBC from a few different sides: as a journalist, a digital producer, a D.C. native and, most importantly, as someone who believes deeply in the power of Black stories and the people who tell them.

From The Circle Society’s @thecirclesocietydc Mind Over Matter, centered on wellness and protecting ourselves while building our careers, to URL Media’s Reclaiming Our Narrative, where I heard from journalists and leaders including Don Lemon, Joy Reid, Errin Haines, Lauren Williams, Alexis McGill Johnson and Rep. Justin J. Pearson about Black media, trust and who gets to tell our stories.

Then today, I switched into work mode, creating digital content with our Radio One DC team as our on-air talent interviewed Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott.

We’ll be broadcasting live again tomorrow, so if you’re here come by and say hi 👋🏽

African American Heritage Day was one for the books! ❤️⚾️ We celebrated the culture, history, and the true sound of Washington, D.C. GoGo music at the Washington Nationals game vs. the Colorado Rockies. @nationals

From the pregame performance by Sugar Bear @dareal_sugarbear and the Go-Go Museum @thegogomuseum truck bringing the D.C. sound to the ballpark, to Shy Glizzy @jefe throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, the energy was unmatched. And those Chocolate City jerseys?

Happy #nationalradioday 📻♥️

Coming from a primarily television news background, this past year has been a completely different experience. It has been challenging, rewarding, and honestly, a reminder of why I love this work.

I’ve had the opportunity to cover local D.C. events, shoot and contribute to stories, experience the Roots Picnic and 50 Years of Go Go celebration, and be in the room for interviews with incredible artists, filmmakers, and community leaders. And to do that while working at the station I grew up listening to? That still blows my mind.

It hasn’t all been easy. Some days feel like I’m doing a million things at once, managing social for five brands, websites, reporting, shooting, creating, and trying to keep up with it all. There are definitely moments when I wonder if I’m doing enough.

But this year has taught me that sometimes you just have to do what you can, with what you have, and make a difference in the way that you can.
And for that, I’m grateful. One year down, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. 📻✨
