after 13 years and 1200 shows, we’re taking an indefinite break. we’d love to see y’all in the fall to celebrate 13 beautiful years in the mipso van and so many people and venues around the country that we love so much. SO MUCH.

we still like each other and our songs. after a decade on the road this is a minor miracle. but for a bunch of reasons (both personal and private ones and big picture music industry stuff) we’ve found ourselves risking burnout and more excited about other things. we don’t want to force it and become resentful toward each other or the music. we don’t want to be motivated by inertia or nostalgia. better to press pause for a while. it’ll be a gift to sing and party and commune together one more time.

we’re playing some of our favorite rooms in the world. about half of these shows are all acoustic 4-piece shows, not for old time’s sake but because it’s still fun.

we’re grateful for y’all in a way that’s hard to express. can’t wait to celebrate with you in the fall.

“Middle Kid” is here!!! debut @jbopsharp record arrived friday, you can listen to it any and everywhere. we’ll be celebrating with an album release show on 11/13 at the @catscradlenc (with @jomoterrell in the band!). you can buy a ticket, the record, a hat or wine opener on my website :) :) :) and you can follow my IG for more updates… or read the incredible @indyweek article from last week and get up to speed :)

this album is about the changes both forced and chosen that life brings your way, and about the relationships that slip and grow alongside them. and the release has been shaped by the trauma and celebrations Cate and I encountered these past few years. more times than not since writing these songs I didn’t think they’d ever see the light of day. grateful they are. it’s a joy to share music again.

hi friends, it’s jacob. I announced my debut album “Middle Kid” a few weeks ago!! and I want to tell you all about it, too <3 it’ll be released on October 9th, but you can pre-order it on vinyl from my friends at @pourhousepressing now and get it even earlier. or stream the singles that are out already :)

and maybe I’ll see you at one of these shows? @ncfolkfestival next weekend along with some other incred fests and release shows at @catscradlenc and @fontaflorabrew to follow.

after 16 years of writing songs and playing shows with Mipso, it feels so odd to finally have a record of my own to share. I’m so nervous?? and quite excited. it’s a wondrous mix of emotions and I believe this to be a magical little batch of tunes. but mainly I just wanna know what it feels like to play a show and see your daughter bobbing along in the crowd :) I hope you connect with the record and I would truly love to see yall this fall.

the announcer inteoduced us as “four unc graduates who have each rushed franklin street four times.” go heels forever (march 4, 2023 unc/duke game) ps maybe the hardest harmony arrangement we ever did?? and it works great in 4/4 taken in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by @mipsomusic

If you’re looking for a way to not just scroll in horror but actually help, there’s a link in our bio with a great list of vetted Minnesotan community organizations and mutual aid groups that are helping immigrants communities on the ground right now.

Whipple Safe Haven gets resources to people released from detention without their phones or jackets. La Vina Church is getting food and rent support to immigrant families. There’s a bunch more on this list including a “How to talk to your kids about ICE” document. Thanks to our Minnesotan friend Siri from @humbirdhumbird for sharing these.

Also grateful for our photojournalist friend @alexkormann12 who is on the streets of Minneapolis every day with his camera documenting what’s happening for the @startribune. Thank you Alex. First pic is his.

Last thought. Alex said he’d been thinking about our song Oceans written by Lib. It’s about waking up one day and the oceans are gone. The horror and shock and uncanny disbelief of something you’ve taken for granted disappearing…safety, democracy, civil rights all on the table. Here’s hoping we can all watch and learn from the people of Minneapolis (and so many places!) putting up a hell of a fight. taken in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by @mipsomusic

POSTER ARCHIVE GRAB BAG FOR SALE! found some doubles in the archive and we’d rather yall have them :)
