In late 2024, Rick Moore, Greg LeBlanc and I recorded a cover of this great song, Carolina Rolling By, by @mipsomusic We got it mixed and mastered by Living Room Studios in Calgary, and then it sat and gathered digital dust for nearly a year and a half. Earlier this summer we finally decided it should see the light of day and I started the process to release it, which involves securing what's known as a mechanical license, which is something you need in order to distribute a cover song. It's only supposed to take a week or two. I submitted the song in July and here we are, it finally happened! The cover art is a painting by my talented sister in law @aliciabackm Alicia Backman-Beharry. It's a great song that I really love singing, and I love the guitar from Greg and mandolin from Rick on this arrangement. Along the way I ended up getting a chance to chat with one of the original songwriters, @jomoterrell from Mipso, who was super supportive and gracious as well. Joseph is putting tons of amazing anti-fascist music out into the world these days, by the way, I highly recommend you get listening to him. Lowk just realizing how much MIPSO I have in these first 5 disks lol. This disk is much more traditional esk folk, more of a twang sound.

liz and i had a big quaker ceremony in my favorite walnut grove at the farm. Fiddlin’ Al McCanless and @alexarosemusic played during the ceremony, then for the party Jimmy Stubbs brought a whole hog, @vivandriley played, the mipsos serenaded us a bit, my brother made cocktails, and we danced to @_magic.al and Rafael Sanchez DJ sets. plus annabella @neon.tumbleweed made our summer solstice invitations. friends all around. and the lead up weeks farm prep was a whole family affair. the dogs helped too.

i used to think i’d never get married because so many traditions around it feel stale and obligatory. but the ceremony was like a group improvisation social magic trick, the collective effervescence of everyone loving you all at once in one place. 10/10 highly recommend. thanks to @elise_usesacamera for some great pro pics too.

Deux styles différents, le premier proche du bluegrass et le second plus expérimental et indie. Il se rejoignent sur leur vision du groupe, du « band » comme une famille où un univers commun nait dans chaque album et où les histoires se vivent et se racontent en musique.
