Be Here Now | Emily Mistretta

“This painting caught my eye for its muted colors and the way it seemed to hold fog and air within it, soft, hazy, and a little melancholic. There was something honest about the mood it created, a reminder that beauty often lives inside imperfection. I want my piece to imagine the scene through the eyes of one of the figures in the painting, experiencing a moment she knows is already slipping away. This ballet is a reflection on that fleetingness; on being fully present even as time moves on, and on how a single moment can echo long after it’s gone.”

-Emily Mistretta on choosing Edmund Greacen’s A Day at the Beach

Three world-premiere choreographies come to life, each inspired by works from the Westerly Museum’s collection of American Impressionism. Through movement, color, and emotion, these new ballets translate brushstrokes into bodies, bringing paintings off the wall and onto the stage in a celebration of light, landscape, and artistic expression.

Choreography by Yury Yanowsky, John Lam, and Emily Mistretta
