After distributing tens of thousands of copies of Hayek for the 21st Century, we’re preparing our next major free-book project: Why Mises Matters Today.

Edited by Mises Institute Senior Fellow Shawn Ritenour, the book will bring together some of Ludwig von Mises’s most accessible and relevant writings for today’s economic and political challenges.

Our goal: print and distribute 100,000 copies free of charge, including to students and campus groups across the country.

If you believe Mises’s ideas deserve a wider audience, help us make it possible:

A strike at a mine in Argentina changes how car parts get made, and no one has to give an order or explain why. Hayek showed how the price system spreads knowledge that central planners could never gather.

"Socialism would work with the right people in charge.”

Hayek showed why that’s backwards: collectivism rewards the people most willing to trample rights, silence dissent and use violence.

By 1940, Ludwig von Mises had watched the ideas he spent his life defending retreat across Europe.
Austria had been annexed. The Nazis seized his possessions. His major work was swallowed by the war. American universities had little interest in him or his ideas.

By every indication, continuing his work was pointless.

He did it anyway—and a small group of supporters eventually stepped forward to make that work possible.

School choice is an improvement. But Paul Cwik argues it doesn’t go far enough.

If education remains dominated by government funding, control, and incentives, changing which school a child attends doesn’t solve the deeper problem.
A free society ultimately requires educational freedom.

Will AI replace college professors?
Maybe some. But Peter Klein argues that’s not the most important question.

The bigger question is whether new technology can help break through the ownership, funding, accreditation, and regulatory structures that have insulated higher education from real market competition and open the door to genuinely private alternatives.

A broken window means work for the glazier. So is war and destruction good for the economy?

Dr. Jonathan Newman explains the broken window fallacy: the spending isn't new, it's just redirected, and a real resource was lost.
