Everyone who participated in this partner workout for the Grand Opening contributed the gym’s overall score. The workout symbolizes a Viking voyage to a new land- sailing, climbing new terrain, engaging in an epic battle, and returning home with treasures in only eight minutes. 🐦‍⬛

As a crew, we rowed 18,007 meters, brought 470 pounds over 34,950 feet, climbed a mountain and burned 1,002 cal, loaded our ship with 382 pounds of treasure and hoisted it 1,342 times into our ship.

Every year on October 3, we will revisit this workout to show that, as a community, WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER. 🦾

Also, we honored the man and the legend, Coach Dunlop from Southeast High School. The man who inspired my weightlifting journey at 16 and has made such a grand impact on the youth in Manatee County. It is my honor to share with the world, the Dunlop Student Scholarship. This scholarship provides opportunity for youth athletes to have expert coaching, as well as equipment donated to the schools made possible by contributions from generous members of the community.

I can’t believe I’m here, in Florida- doing this. I’m 40. I’ve been chasing this dream for so. many. years. I’ve competed and won. I’ve been 90’s skinny, very overweight, and super muscular. I’ve trained in a few niche sports like Olympic Weightlifting, CrossFit, and rowing. I love hiking, yoga, running, rock climbing, and paddle boarding to name a few others. Life is beautiful and full of adventure and I just want to be able to stay healthy and move well. I have evolved to care more about the food I consume, how I move, my quality of life, and the people I surround myself with. I don’t need to have perfect abs or win championships to enjoy my life, or need to perform to be worthy of approval. This season of life is happy and humble. I am honored and beyond grateful for the opportunity, support, and love I have received to pursue this dream of mine from countless people. I want to share my wealth of knowledge and to provide the best care, coaching, and guidance to the community. It feels like a lifetime has passed, but it’s only the beginning. Bringing Shield Maiden Fitness to life took so much work and dedication. Pouring my energy and being vulnerable to compete with big name gyms/trainers in the area took balls. Lots of them. But I showed up and poured my heart into every interaction, every event, every training session. I even cashed in my life savings, just to open the doors on a gym. Why? Because I believe in community. I believe we are all stronger, together. I believe that good people do good things and deserve a place to call home. And now, I own a business. That business is on a map. It has my name and my honor behind it. Longship Strength & Conditioning is a community space dedicated to helping EVERY athlete at EVERY level become better- spiritually and physically. The longship represents us all, banding together to weather the storms. We are a crew of resilient adventurers embarking on an epic journey.
