Out of the Box- my totally selfish love letter to music, art & fashion
Music- When I was a college kid I was a DJ at the local college radio station. I had a terrible time slot with my bestie. I went to shows all the time and loved all kinds of music. Live shows are the best- and whether standing in the back just experiencing the sound or bashing into people in front- music has an amazing power to bond you to others in communal enjoyment. And I love seeing a cross generational mosh pit. It just warms my heart.

Art- OOB is for the artists whose passion and need to create overcomes the knowledge that art most often doesn’t equate to monetary riches. They do it anyway. And they’re weird and obsessed and sometimes electric with ideas- like it’s sizzling your brain. Sometimes you have to create and maybe it doesn’t jive with what is typically shown in galleries. Nothing against galleries… But it still needs to get out there and I love seeing it!

Fashion- it’s like art, armor (it really sets up a nice layer between the world and all that trauma…) and artifice all rolled into one. It’s the joy of going from just wearing store bought clothing to creating a look, a persona, a character but not in a fake way, in a way that’s even more you. I am so excited to have found people who love music and sharing that with the community. I am so inspired by the artists who create from their heart and mind and souls. I am so amazed by the designers, young and old, who are creating and upcycling, and thumbing their nose at fast fashion. And I am so thankful for the community that came together to support a weird art event, especially the volunteers❤️.

I am hugely grateful for team @firehouseartcenter- @reed_the_spencer and @joannekirves . That was a long day only bought by blood, sweat and tears. Well maybe just sweat… Hopefully…

ArtWalk on Main kicks off Longmont Arts Week Saturday September 12, 4:00pm-8:00pm on Main St. between 3rd Avenue and Longs Peak Avenue!
