October is domestic violence awareness month and I feel really lucky to have had a chance to attend the Reinvention Edit which was held in honor of Love & Protect Wisdom. 1 in 3 women experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime and it’s important to know the available resources.

Maine ladies, the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence helps promote organizations that can help you or a loved one navigate these situations. The link is in my bio to learn more. 💜 taken in Three Cities Social by @missmeusa

Lots of updates coming soon but I had an amazing time attending the Bright Promises Award Ceremony last week. Bright Promises helps provide youth all throughout Chicago with the tools they need to thrive and show up as their best selves.

My biggest takeaway was that when community leaders strengthen systems early, they improve outcomes for kids before they are in a crisis. This work matters and I’m happy I was able to connect with such great people.🫶🏻 taken in Chicago, Illinois by @missmeusa

To have been able to visit the 9/11 Memorial was nothing short of surreal. I had the pleasure of meeting a man named Paulie who started Paulie’s Pushcarts. He was a former flight attendant who wanted to honor the individuals lost that worked for United and American Airlines and made a commitment to push a beverage cart and walk along each of the flight paths. This year alone, he traveled 28 days to return to Ground Zero. His work matters but more importantly, remembering matters. 🤍

To the people who allowed me to show up for her, thank you. I can’t wait to show up for Maine for the rest of the year.

Mom & Dad, thank you for endlessly supporting this crazy dream and for being front row for it all. I love you both to the moon and back!!

To Catherine, Liv, Madison, and David, thank you all for being there to lift me up and for being my people. I love you guys. To my friends and family who couldn’t be there, thank you for the love sent to Miami.

To the Clemente family, thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and giving me my yes.

To Kaet, Gina, Julia (my KPC family)- this has long felt like our dream. You guys have always pushed me to show up as myself and that in and of itself is a gift. I love you three endlessly!! From 15 to 25, to me, that’s the magic you’ve inspired.

To my Morgan, you managed to change my life in 600 workouts. Thank you for caring about me as a human and for being the kind of woman this industry needs and all my fellow ladies deserve.

Allissa, thank you for all your help to get me stage ready and for pouring into me this year!

Blake, Dorjka, and Rosa: thank you for caring for me all week and making me feel beautiful. A dream team.

Jimmy, thank you for helping me to find my voice and for allowing me to embrace myself in the interview room.

Layilah, I’ll say it again- when there’s a will there’s a way and when there’s a Mykala there’s a Layilah. Thank you really doesn’t cut it here and I appreciate your belief in me and the way you pushed me to places I didn’t think I could go. WE GOT HIPS!!

Raven, your honesty, your belief, your time. I value you and the energy you’ve given me more than you know.

It was only fitting to finish how I started. Thank you to the Miss USA organization for shaping me into the person I am today. I learned to be stubbornly persistent and truly to never give up when chasing a dream. Thank you for giving me a space to be in a community of women who are so incredible.

There are so many thank you’s that I owe to people for pouring into me throughout this process & that in and of itself deserves a whole separate post which will come soon. For now, I am just soaking in the end of a chapter.

I am forever an awful texter but every good luck, hype up message, and word of encouragement meant the world to me and more.

To my family and friends who came here to support me, I love you guys more than you know.

I’ve thought a lot about what this post would be like and it finally is one I can share. I got to walk across the Miss USA stage. Every no, every time I thought I wasn’t enough, every dream - I got to do it. I feel so many emotions surrounding this because I feel like I’ve reached the pinnacle of a goal I’ve had for years. I told myself I’d be 90% better than I was at Miss Maine USA - there were hours of prep, flights, restructuring, and building to ensure I could be my best. Thank you to my people for helping me grow and show up for the girl who would flip out if she knew where she was today.
