From our BLM Burr Point backyard, we wandered north along the rim and out to another point for a completely different view of the Dirty Devil River canyon. The canyon is about 1,400 feet deep from the rim where we are set up to the river.

The views have the same jaw-dropping scale and layered geology we see at national parks. The Dirty Devil Wilderness Study Area protects about 61,000 acres, and some of its tributary canyons are up to 500 feet deep and more than 10 miles long.

In September 2025, I took the BeagleBus up beyond South Mineral Creek near Silverton to the Rico–Silverton trailhead.

There was a rocky stretch where I started thinking I’d made better decisions in my life. There was no way I was going to be able to back down what I’d just driven up. This was at the very limits of the Ekko’s ability.

The place at the end was incredible. Creeks, pools, mountains, and autumn colors—and a place I still want to go back to. I’d scout the road carefully before taking a rig up there again.

October 5–14 along Poison Springs Wash Road, Utah.

I picked a campsite up on a hill with rain in the forecast and stayed longer than planned to wait out the weather. In between, I walked the wash and explored some of the side canyons below camp.

From the campsite, you don’t really see what’s down there. A short walk changes that.

The sunrise scene at Little Egypt Geologic Area was a combination of dramatic, dark, stormy skies, glowing sunlit rocks and a rainbow. 🌈

We followed the formations to the far end, climbed up and out to stunning views, continued across the higher terrain for a short distance, then took another way back down.

Little Egypt’s hoodoos
are carved from Jurassic-age Entrada Sandstone, the same rock layer found in Goblin Valley, Cathedral Valley, and parts of Arches National Park. Millions of years of weather and erosion created the rounded towers. Iron oxide in the sandstone gives them the red and orange hue.

Long ago, while the sandstone was still buried, groundwater moved through the porous rock. In some places that water chemically dissolved or altered the hematite, basically bleaching the sandstone and forming the unique light bands.

Little Egypt made me think of Goblin Valley and Toadstool Geologic Park. Strange shapes, textures, and formations everywhere you look. And it’s just this tiny speck on this tiny world in a massive universe. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to get out and see some of it.

I decided to play around with Suno and somehow ended up making a song about the Beagles. At that point, I had to put it over some footage so I wouldn’t be the only person who ever heard it.

Camping in Poison Spring Canyon with Teresa and Joe. @wanderingdigitalnomads.

Yesterday started with a hike through Poison Spring Canyon, then we headed over to Leprechaun Canyon for the afternoon.

This part of Utah is just spectacular.

We finished the new Millworks building about a week and a half ago, and these are some of the first snowboard core blocks coming out of it.

Cutting, gluing, stacking, and pressing the core block is where the foundation of the snowboard gets built.
