All glory be to God. On October 1st, I received the Lifetime Achievement in African Tech Award at the Tech & AI International Expo Zanzibar 2026, presented by Hon. Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, Minister of Communication, Information Technology and Innovation of Zanzibar.

I am humbled.

Because I know where this journey began. I was the first boy in my village to own a laptop.

I never imagined that one day I would stand in Zanzibar receiving recognition for a journey that started there.

But this award is not really about me. It belongs to every African boy and girl with talent, ambition and a dream, but without the opportunity yet. The laptop. The internet. The mentor. The first chance.

I am building for them.

Because I believe we can build an Africa where our young people don't have to escape to find opportunity.

An Africa where a village boy can build for the world.

An Africa where geography doesn't determine destiny.

That is why our commitment at @Maarifasasa remains:

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Maarifasasa Limited, a pan-African EdTech and future-of-work company, Robert is on a mission to unlock one million digital earning opportunities across Africa by 2030.

A leading African voice on the future of work in the age of AI, Robert argues that Africa's talent is not a gap to be filled, but the world's greatest untapped opportunity. Maarifasasa is an innovative Ugandan EdTech venture focused on unlocking economic opportunities for young people through a structured Learn-Earn-Grow model. The company combines practical digital skills training, mentorship, and employment pathways into a scalable platform designed to improve workforce readiness and income generation among youth aged 18–35.

I walked onto the stage at the World HR Summit Africa 2026 to challenge HR Leaders to redesign work for the age of Human-Machine collaboration.

For thirty years we have heard one phrase: "Africa is catching up." Catching up to what? To economies now scrambling to retrofit AI on top of a labour model they openly admit doesn't work?

We are not behind. We are early. We have the youngest workforce on Earth, a clean-sheet policy environment, and a generation of HR leaders who can write the playbook the rest of the world will eventually borrow. When everyone else is renovating, we get to design.

Every workplace gets designed. The only question is by whom?
