The horrors persist; therefore so must we.

Back in February, I was graciously chosen by @riji.raja to join the Austin 2024 cohort of the @sohohouse x @creativefuturescollective mentorship, and this past Tuesday was our end-of-program celebration and Mentee Showcase. I had the opportunity to present to a room of collaborators, friends, and family this little idea that I've held close to my chest for years—something I'll have more information on as time passes, but for now you can head to @ktchnsnk.decor (previously mjostew_illustrates) if you'd like to stay in the loop.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this program happen. Thank you to my mentor David Thompson for seeing in me what I forgot was there. Thank you to my parents for always showing up and showing out. Thank you to my friends for cheerleading me throughout this process. And especially thank you to my fellow mentees—you guys reminded me what it's like to be in company and community with creative, likeminded souls and it reignited a spark in me I've been missing for a long, long time ♥️♥️

Marchele (she/her) and Daren (he/him) are father and daughter. Their relationship has played a significant role in shaping their evolving personalities. They have been able to grow and resolve their individual conflicts through their ever-changing dynamic. Their conscientious personalities are essential to their unconditional and unwavering love for each other, as well as their foundational support as father and daughter. Being present for one another through thick and thin is their favorite way of showing love.

And so the journey that began in March (💀) finally comes to an end ☀️ Thanks for coming along on this ride. I learned a lot, did a lot, but perhaps most importantly had a lot of fun. I hope to continue to find opportunities to add the ol' razzle dazzle to spaces, and I hope to continue getting better at it. The thing I'm happiest with in this space is absolutely the @worldmarket rug, finding it was like striking gold 💛

Whoever said peel-and-stick tile is easy was WRONG ❌ What we assumed would be a quick lil after work shebang ended up taking all night. So especially if it's your first time putting this stuff up, please give yourself ample time 😭 Regardless, it was worth the trouble. Changing the backsplash from a horizontal stark white to a vertical moody green added so much personality and created a ~whole new vibe~. Easily the most impactful change—if I'd only had the budget to do one thing, this would've been it for sure, time consumption be damned ✨ In the next one I'll finally show how it all looks together !!

Absolutely ✨not✨ pictured: how unnecessarily complex we made hanging the mirror and shelves. Worth the headache, though, if I do say so myself. I really love how removing the accordion doors just opened up the space—sometimes closed storage isn't always the best option ! We've got one more before the finale, and it's probably the ~most exciting~ part of this whole update 🌿🐢🫑

Life hack: hang on to those long, skinny boxes because they make for an excellent cabinet pull spray painting solution 📝 I was nervous to tackle this one, but the matte black turned out amazing, especially against that bright white of the cabinets—really added some personality and moodiness to an otherwise sterile space. Just a couple more areas before the final reveal !! (and yes, we did scrub-a-dub the handles prior to painting them)

Massive massive thank you to Leah @theinnbetweentx for facilitating this trip ! Last year she put out a call for folks who wanted to come stay *for free* just to get inspired to create something, and last week my sister and I trekked out to Concan, TX. It's a beautiful, quiet little compound—the perfect place for starting out the new year. I've never been invited to do anything like this before, and I'm beyond grateful to have been given a shot ♥️ If you're in the market for a cozy getaway, I highly recommend The Inn Between !!! by @mjostew

ponder prompts no. 7: cleanliness edition 🫧

the last prompt was so nice i had to put it twice ✨ thinking on that one for myself made me realize i have a lot more to be grateful for than i make a conscious effort to remember sometimes. there's even a past version of me that would love to place a couple things from the now, too, and that's a very humbling yet beautiful thing to own ♥️♥️ sometimes the grass *is* greener on the other side, and sometimes the grass is greener where you water it, but sometimes your grass is plenty green on its own and it's okay if a cloudy day makes them a little more grey than usual for a while.
