We explored the SHADOW SIDE of money.

What happens when abundance becomes avoidance?

When “God will provide” becomes a reason not to pay attention?

When creating a beautiful life becomes easier than understanding the financial foundation beneath it?

And here’s something I believe with my WHOLE heart…

Financial empowerment is at the heart of female empowerment.

Having your OWN money isn’t selfish.
It isn’t disloyal.
And it isn’t about expecting the worst.

It’s about FREEDOM.

The freedom to make choices that are BEST for you and the people you love.

The freedom to navigate Plan B when life throws something at you that DEFINITELY wasn’t on your bingo card!

And PLEASE…don’t wait until you NEED financial independence to begin creating it.

We talked about faith, fear, worthiness, responsibility, and why money is NEVER just about money.

And yes…there’s STILL no luggage on the hearse, people! 😂

But maybe we should know what’s in the bank before packing for the trip!

Ohhhhhh, Episode 4 is almost here!

What if everything you believe about money isn’t actually your belief?

What if it’s simply a story you’ve been carrying since childhood?

One thing I’m discovering is that even our best beliefs about money can have a shadow side.

Because sometimes abundance becomes avoidance.

Sometimes faith becomes an excuse not to pay attention.

And sometimes life hands us something that was not on the bingo card!

Here’s what I believe with my whole heart…

Financial empowerment is at the heart of female empowerment.

Ladies, having your own money isn’t selfish. It isn’t disloyal. And it isn’t about expecting the worst.

It’s about freedom. The freedom to make choices that are best for YOU and the people you love, no matter what life throws your way.

THAT WASN’T ON THE BINGO CARD! 😳

How many times have you said THAT about something that happened in your life?

You had a plan. A vision. A pretty good idea of how things were going to unfold.

And then…LIFE happened.

A divorce you never saw coming.
An unexpected illness.
An accident that takes you out of work.
The loss of someone you love.

Suddenly, Plan A is off the table, and you’re wondering what the heck Plan B is supposed to look like.

Here’s something I’ve learned…

Life isn’t always about how well you execute Plan A. Sometimes it’s about how prepared you are to navigate Plan B.

I’ve been broke. I’ve been wealthy. And I’ve experienced my share of things that were DEFINITELY not on my bingo card. 😂

And one thing I know for sure…

Money can’t prevent heartbreak, illness, grief, or loss.

But financial security can make those difficult seasons a whole lot more manageable.

Because FINANCIAL SECURITY = FREEDOM.

Freedom to make choices that are BEST FOR YOU and the people you love.

Freedom to leave a situation that no longer serves you.

Freedom to take the time you need to heal, grieve, or begin again.

Freedom to choose your next chapter instead of having your circumstances choose it for you.

THAT is what financial empowerment means to me.

Not the biggest bank account or the fanciest lifestyle.

It’s about having OPTIONS.

And ladies, we owe it to ourselves to understand our money, participate in our financial decisions, and prepare for life’s inevitable curveballs.

I’m still learning right alongside you!

I think we’d both have a lot of questions. 😂

She’d want to know how we got here.

And I’d want to remind her of all the things I’ve forgotten about the woman I was then.

We’d probably disagree on a few things. 😉
We’d definitely surprise each other.

But I think eventually we’d realize that neither one of us has it all figured out.

We’re simply two versions of the same woman doing the best we can with what we know at the time.

And somewhere between 2016 and 2026, I’ve learned to trust that God knows what He’s doing, even when I don’t.

Maybe that’s what growing older really gives us.

Not all the answers.

Just a little more faith in the unfolding.

What if even our BEST beliefs about money have a shadow side?

I’ve always considered myself to have an abundant mindset.

I believe there will be more.
I believe things have a way of working out.
I believe God provides.
And I definitely believe there is NO luggage on the hearse. 😂

Those beliefs have served me really well.

But lately I’ve been asking myself a different question…

What happens when abundance becomes avoidance?

When “it will all work out” becomes a reason not to look too closely?

When faith replaces responsibility instead of working alongside it?

When enjoying money becomes easier than understanding it?

Ooooof. 😬

Because here’s the thing…

I’ve been broke.
I’ve been wealthy.
I’ve made a LOT of money.
And I’ve also made some pretty terrible decisions with it.

I am still learning what financial empowerment actually means.

And maybe THAT is the conversation.

Not scarcity or abundance.
Not fear or faith.
Not saving every penny or “you can’t take it with you.”

Maybe maturity is learning to hold BOTH.

To enjoy money AND respect it.
To trust AND pay attention.
To believe there will be more AND take responsibility for what’s already in our hands.

Because every money story has a shadow.

And sometimes the beliefs that have carried us the farthest are the very ones worth looking at again.

Have you ever walked away from a conversation feeling LESS certain about something you were completely sure of before?

It’s fascinating how that happens, isn’t it?

Someone we love, trust, or respect offers their perspective, and suddenly we’re questioning everything.

Was I wrong?
Am I being selfish?
Who do I think I am?
What if they’re right?

And just like that, an old insecurity we thought we’d outgrown is sitting in the driver’s seat. AGAIN. 😂

Here’s what I’ve been thinking about...

Not every opinion that makes us uncomfortable is wrong. And not every opinion that makes us uncomfortable is RIGHT.

That’s where discernment comes in.

Sometimes the discomfort is an invitation to grow. To see something about ourselves we haven’t been willing to see.

And sometimes it’s simply an old wound asking to be acknowledged.

Learning to recognize the difference is part of learning to trust ourselves.

We can love people, respect their experiences, and appreciate their wisdom without allowing their perspective to become our identity.

Because the goal isn’t to live a life where nobody questions us.

It’s to become so connected to who we are that we can be questioned without losing ourselves.

THAT is a conversation worth having. ❤️

YES.

Yes to myself.
Yes to the scary thing.
Yes to using my voice.
Yes to beginning again.

What if the hardest part of becoming a new version of yourself isn’t changing?

What if it’s staying there long enough for the new version to feel familiar?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot.

We can almost taste the life we want.
We catch glimpses of the woman we’re becoming.
We make a different choice.
Set a different boundary.
Trust ourselves a little more.
Stop chasing.
Start allowing.

And then something happens.

The old version calls us back.

Not necessarily because she was happier there…but because she KNOWS it there.

There’s comfort in the familiar. Even when we’ve outgrown it.

So maybe the work isn’t to keep reinventing ourselves.

Maybe it’s devotion.

Can I stay devoted to the woman I’m becoming long enough for her to become the woman I recognize?

Can I resist the urge to run back to an old version of myself simply because I know how to be her?

And maybe the biggest question of all…

What if this “new” woman isn’t new at all?

What if she’s been there the entire time, waiting underneath all the noise for me to stop abandoning her?

Well. Then. There. Now.

Maybe becoming isn’t the assignment.

Sometimes the people who love us most are trying to protect us from something that was never ours to fear.

Their experience is real.
Their concern may be genuine.
Their advice may even come from love.

But their story is still THEIR story.

Listen to wise counsel. Stay open to the people who can see a blind spot you can’t see for yourself.

But don’t confuse someone else’s fear with your truth.

You can listen without surrendering your knowing.
You can consider their perspective without making it your identity.
You can love them without living their life.

At some point, you have to trust yourself enough to write your own story. ❤️

Sometimes I think one of my superpowers is that I have no need to know what happens next.

I have dreams. BIG ones. I have things I want to create, places I want to go, and work I know I’m here to do.

But I don’t need to know exactly HOW it’s all going to happen.

And maybe that’s the gift.

For almost 14 years, I built a career and a life I could never have imagined when I first said yes to it. And then one day, I found myself being asked to do something entirely different…

Let it go.

Not because it wasn’t beautiful.
Not because it wasn’t successful.
But because somewhere inside of me, I knew there was more.

Then, There, Now was born in that space.

Not from having all the answers.
Not from some perfectly mapped-out business plan.
But from listening to the quiet voice inside of me that said, GO. Getting quiet and listening to God.

I still don’t know exactly where all of this is taking me.

And I kind of love that.

Because I wonder how much magic we miss when we insist on knowing what happens next.

How many dreams do we talk ourselves out of because we can’t figure out the HOW?

How many times does our need to control the outcome keep us from experiencing something we never could have planned?

So, for whatever it’s worth, here’s what I’m learning:

Control the controllables.
Surrender the rest.
Let go and let God!

Say YES more than no.
Go all in when your soul tells you to.
Trust what you know before you have the evidence to prove it.

And allow what you’re seeking to find you. If there’s one thing I know for sure it is that what you seek is always seeking you!

Because sometimes the next chapter doesn’t arrive with a map.

Sometimes it begins with remembering who you are.

At 53, after everything I’ve built, lost, loved, learned, released and begun again…I still live with this feeling that maybe my life hasn’t even started yet.

There is SO much more to do.

And that excites the heck out of me.

I’m here for all of it.

I’m showing up.
I’m doing the work.
I’m staying grateful.

And I’m allowing.

It’s not in the HOW.
It’s in the ALLOW. by @mkstylista
