We are excited to welcome @jackultracyclist on his “Ride The Nation” adventure!

As part of his ambitious Ride the Nation journey across the United States, ultra-endurance cyclist and nine-time world record holder Jack Thompson will join students at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School’s Riding for Focus program on Monday, September 14, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Germantown, Maryland.

This visit is one of several activations taking place along Thompson’s bicycle ride through all 48 contiguous states. Led in partnership with @newform_community and with community activations supported by @outride , this event aims to bring people together through cycling while highlighting the positive impact riding can have on brain health, well-being, and community connection.

We’ve been selected as a 2026 @outride Community Impact Grant recipient!

This grant will allow our school to expand access to cycling and help more students experience its social, emotional, & cognitive benefits!

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 10th is “World Mental Health Day”! We at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School want to recognize the power of the bicycle and how it can be used as a tool for mental health wellness!

Wild weather week! Rain kept our classes inside for the first half of the week, but once it stopped we got rolling!

The power of bicycles was on display Monday as we hosted @jackultracyclist on his #RideTheNation Journey!

Jack is currently riding 48 states in 60 days with over 10,000 miles being pedaled! We were lucky enough to be his stop in Maryland!

Our @outride Riding for Focus students welcomed Jack to our community and even took him out on our famous Black Hill Trail ride! We even surprised him with one of his favorite treats: donuts! 🍩👍

Thank you to @newform_community @outride @iamspecialized for supporting Jack on this massive effort around the USA!

Happy #WorldBicyleDay 2026!

World Bicycle Day recognizes “the uniqueness, longevity, & versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean, & environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.”

Yesterday, we hosted the founder of World Bicycle Day, Dr. Leszek Sibilski and dedicated the first-ever piece of infrastructure in the DMV region in honor of World Bicycle Day!
