I could talk about money all day 💸

I love money. I love making money. I love saving money. I love automating my money (this probably makes me a super geek). I love knowing where my money is going - nothing gives me more pleasure than a good spreadsheet.

Not because I think money is the most important thing in life, but because I think having a healthy relationship with money gives you choices, freedom and a whole lot less stress. I speak from personal experience, having lived both realities. I’ve done a lot of personal work on this.

And interestingly, money is probably the topic in my mentorship that hits the most nerves.

For a lot of coaches, money isn’t just numbers.

It can bring up beliefs about what it means to be successful: whether charging more is selfish, whether you’re “worth” your rate, or whether you should always be giving more. More time? More discounts? More access?

Whether thinking about your money somehow makes you less focused on helping people.

Then there are the very practical parts of running a business: billing clients, following up on unpaid invoices, setting aside money for taxes, understanding your expenses and actually knowing what you’re earning.

There’s a lot more to your relationship with money than simply deciding what to charge.

The good news is that you can change the relationship.

I think that’s an important, and even essential, part of building a business that is both profitable and sustainable.

If building a more confident, sustainable coaching business is on your list for 2027, I’m currently accepting applications and inquiries for the January session of Business Foundations for Fitness Professionals.

Start the new year with more clarity, confidence and intention around the business you’re building.

Send me a message or reach out through the link in my bio to learn more.

📣I’ve officially opened registration for my 8-week Business Foundations mentorship for personal trainers and fitness professionals 📣

You may be an excellent coach. You may have years of experience. And chances are, you genuinely care about helping people.

But nobody taught you how to build the business around your coaching.

✓ How to consistently attract clients.
✓ How to retain them.
✓ How to create boundaries and systems.
✓ How to communicate professionally.
✓ How to build a business that supports your life instead of consuming it.

I know this because I’ve lived it.

After decades in the wellness industry, I became a certified personal trainer at 50. Since then, I’ve built a thriving six-figure personal training business in my 50s by combining exceptional coaching with strong systems, clear communication and genuine client relationships. Now I want to help other fitness professionals do the same with more clarity, confidence and intention.

This is an intimate, 8-week small-group mentorship for personal trainers and fitness professionals who are ready to stop winging the business side of their work.

We’ll cover client acquisition, retention, communication, systems, professionalism, boundaries, referrals and the practical foundations of building a sustainable business.

The next group begins in September, and applications are now open.

If you’re a personal trainer, strength coach, yoga teacher, Pilates instructor or other fitness professional who wants to build a stronger business, the link is in my bio.

I’m also happy to chat over Google Meet or WhatsApp to see if we’re a good fit.

You know how to coach.

Now learn how to build the business.

Lifting weights and lifting spirits 🦾

I was happy to see this article in @thetorontostar about @camhnews ‘ supervised exercise program for people living with depression - a client thoughtfully shared it with me.

Exercise is often discussed in terms of physical health, but its impact can extend well beyond our muscles, bones and cardiovascular system. Regular movement can also support mental wellbeing, confidence and a sense of connection. Exercise is a huge part of my self care.

What I particularly appreciate about this program is its emphasis on supervised, accessible exercise in a supportive environment. Getting started can be challenging, especially when you’re struggling with your mental health. Having someone meet you where you are, help you build gradually and make the experience feel manageable can make a real difference.

As a personal trainer, I see exercise as so much more than a physical pursuit. It’s about helping people feel more capable, building trust in their bodies and supporting their quality of life.

Exercise isn’t a replacement for appropriate mental health care, but it deserves a meaningful place in the conversation.

I hope we see more programs like this, and greater recognition of the role that qualified exercise professionals can play in supporting overall health.

People value what they pay for. Your price communicates value.

That doesn’t mean you should charge more just for the sake of charging more.

But if you’re constantly discounting your services because you’re worried about what your clients can afford, you may be making their budget your pricing strategy.

Your price needs to reflect the value of your expertise, experience, time and the business you’re building.

Pricing is one of the many things we’ll dig into inside Business Foundations for Fitness Professionals, my 8-week mentorship for trainers and fitness professionals who want to build a stronger, more sustainable business.

Founder pricing is currently available.

September applications are open.

I’ve been having fun with tarot lately. I see as a way to pause and reflect, seeing things from a different perspective. Plus, I love the imagery of these cards.

These two cards keep showing up for me this week.

The Hierophant: wisdom, teaching, mentorship, passing on what you’ve learned.

The Ten of Pentacles: building something lasting. Legacy. Long-term impact.

I mean……that tracks.

I’ve spent a lot of my life figuring things out by doing them. Making mistakes. Learning. Building. Starting over, and building again. Did I mention making loads of mistakes?

At some point, I realized that experience isn’t meant to just stay with me, it was meant to be shared.

So I see this as:

♾️ Build something that lasts.
♾️ Teach what you’ve learned.
♾️ And do it your own way. taken in Planet Earth by @mmptyyz

Today I was part personal trainer, part therapist, part problem solver.

Because sometimes the workout isn’t the hardest part of the session.

Sometimes the win is helping someone walk in feeling overwhelmed, stiff, tired, or frustrated… and leave feeling stronger, more confident, and a little more like themselves again.

That’s the part of coaching people don’t always see. The exercises matter, and of course the programming matters.

But so does listening, adapting, and meeting people where they’re at.

It’s also one of the biggest lessons I hope to pass on through my Business Foundations for Fitness Professionals mentorship.

New trainers often think success comes from writing the perfect program.

In reality, the trainers who build long, sustainable careers know how to coach the person in front of them, not just the workout on the page.

Technical knowledge gets clients results.

But professionalism, adaptability, and genuine human connection are what build careers.

That’s exactly what my mentorship is about.

If you’re ready to become not just a better trainer, but a better fitness professional, send me a DM. I’d love to tell you more.

*No actual psychotherapy or physio was provided, I always work within my scope of practice*

When I became a personal trainer, I knew I was building a business.

What I didn’t realize was how much of it I’d have to figure out on my own. Things like:

Pricing.
Systems.
Client retention.
Difficult conversations.
Boundaries.

There wasn’t a roadmap for building a professional, sustainable fitness business.

Over the years, I learned through experience - what worked, what didn’t, and what I wish someone had taught me from the beginning.

That’s exactly why I created Business Foundations for Fitness Professionals.

If you’re a fitness professional who’s great at coaching but wants more confidence on the business side, this program is for you.

“You don’t need more clients. You need the right clients.”

I said what I said!

One of the biggest mistakes I see a lot of fitness professionals make is trying to appeal to everyone.

If you’re speaking to everyone, you’re speaking to no one.

The coaches who build sustainable businesses are the ones who know exactly who they’re here to serve.

And here’s the part nobody talks about: you get to choose.

You get to decide who you work with.
You get to build a business around your strengths.
You get to create a client roster that energizes you instead of drains you.

When your values, experience, and ideal client are aligned, marketing becomes easier, coaching becomes more rewarding, and your confidence grows.

Stop trying to fit into someone else’s version of success.

Build the business that feels authentic to you.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start building your fitness business with intention, my 8-week Business Foundations Mentorship begins this September.

Details are in the 🔗 in my bio.

Soooo if you know me IRL you may realize that I’m a bit of a hippie. I am having fun learning tarot (I’m drawn to the beauty and imagery of the cards) and pulled three cards for myself: past, present and future.

Knight of Cups, Six of Wands & The Empress 👑 This last one gave me a small thrill 💖

The Knight of Cups: follow the feeling. Trust the pull. Let yourself be led by something that doesn’t always make logical sense on paper.

The Six of Wands: look at what you’ve actually accomplished. You are no longer trying to prove that you can do this. —>You have done it <—

And The Empress 👑 She doesn’t chase. She doesn’t hustle for worthiness. She creates the conditions for things to grow.

This really ties in with some feelings and themes I’ve been sitting on:

💫 Stop trying to make yourself fit the expected mould (I’ve always bust through them like the Kool Aid man, even when I was a little kid. I also reference KAM at least twice a week, yelling “OH YEAHhhhh”)

💫 Lean into your differences - easy for me because I’m a ginormous weirdo

💫 Do things your own way - My Pops always told me that being conventional was for boring people

This all applies to business as much as it applies to life.

I’m a personal trainer, but I’m also a little witchy. I collect pine cones, rocks and feathers as much as I collect exercise equipment 🪶

I’m a business owner, but I’m also creative and intuitive.

I love evidence and science, but I ALWAYS trust to my gut. Anytime I’ve gone against my intuition, it hasn’t ended well.

I’ve spent decades in the wellness industry, but I didn’t become a certified personal trainer until I was 50. I’ve really honed my business skills in my 50s.

I’m still learning, evolving, still following the occasional weird voice that says, “Try this.”

You don’t have to become more like everyone else to build something successful. You have to sink into becoming more fully yourself.

The message from my cards was simple:

I followed the feeling.
I built the thing.
Now I get to inhabit the abundance of what I’ve created.

And that feels pretty damn good!!✨ taken in Planet Earth by @mmptyyz

67 years young and stronger than ever 🦾

So proud of my client - not just on her 67th birthday, but every single day. She shows up, puts in the work, and has truly made strength training part of her lifestyle.

Her dedication has paid off in a big way: through consistent training (along with appropriate medical care, diet and supplementation), she’s improved her bone density from osteoporosis to osteopenia.

I film little progress videos for her to send to her son in New York so he can cheer her on from afar 🖤

But can we take a moment to appreciate those back muscles tho🔥

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a personal trainer:

Your onboarding process matters just as much as your programming.

It sets expectations, builds trust, establishes boundaries, and shows clients what it’s like to work with you - all before they show up for their first session.

If you’re a coach, take a look at your own onboarding process and ask yourself:

Would it reflect the quality of your coaching?

I’d love to hear what’s included in your onboarding process - or what you think is often overlooked.
