Czechia legalised medical psilocybin on 1 January, but legal status has not yet become access. At this PsychedelicsEUROPE’s SCALE conference in Prague this week, clinicians and funders said reimbursement, workforce training and shared care standards now stand between the law and patients.

Until public insurers agree to pay, early treatment is likely to be self-funded. PSYRES, the Czech Psychedelic Research Foundation, is leading a cost-effectiveness study meant to inform that decision.

In a guest op-ed for Mind Forward, former Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ writer @philippianne describes how psychedelic experiences led her to rebuild her life and become a founder in the psychedelic space.

She writes: “You won’t get just a “breakthrough” with psychedelics. You will need a full reset. You will say hello to reorganising your entire life. So what happens to your life when you do psychedelics after 40? It kind of explodes. But you will also see, more clearly than ever, who you actually are. And who you don’t want to be any more.”

Anne Philippi will be the Master of Ceremonies at our upcoming London conference, December 1 at Ministry of Sound. Meet her an other opinion makers shaping the future of mental health innovation across Europe.

The U.S. FDA has cleared Motivista, a prescription smartphone app from Click Therapeutics, for the negative symptoms of schizophrenia: lost motivation, pleasure and interest in other people. Click calls it the first authorised treatment for these symptoms.

Its trial showed a modest effect. Clinician-rated scores fell 6.8 points with the app and 4.2 with a control app, on a 36-point scale. Results on social functioning are unpublished, and Click has announced no UK or European plans, price or insurance coverage.

We reviewed 37 at-home brain stimulation devices sold for depression, anxiety or stress across the UK, EU and US.

17 hold authorisation from at least one regulator. 20 have no medical-device authorisation at all.

On the evidence, 22 of the 37 rated Low: no significant trial evidence backs their claims. Only 7 rated High.

Our new report covers how each device works, what it costs, who has authorised it and whether the evidence holds up.

King’s College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust have published Britain’s first publicly funded, randomised psilocybin trial for treatment-resistant depression delivered inside the NHS. Six weeks after a single dose, 40% of patients on psilocybin no longer counted as clinically depressed, against 3% on placebo.

The caveat is blinding. All 13 psilocybin recipients asked could tell they had received the drug, so expectation likely explains part of the benefit. The trial proves the NHS can run these studies; cost, workforce and licensing remain unanswered.

The U.S. FDA has granted Breakthrough Device Designation to NET Recovery’s ear-worn stimulator for cocaine and methamphetamine addiction. The status speeds up development and review but does not equal approval, and the device remains unauthorised for stimulant use.

Stimulants were involved in 59% of U.S. overdose deaths between January 2021 and June 2024, according to CDC figures. The device is already on the market, but only for opioid withdrawal, alongside standard medicines and under clinical supervision.

Speaker Spotlight 💡 Professor Richard Morriss

TMS works for treatment-resistant depression. The question Richard Morriss keeps asking is how to make it accessible to everyone who could benefit from it, not just the few who can currently reach it.

Morriss is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nottingham, Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Lincoln. He leads the Nottingham NIHR Mental Health and Technology theme and is adult mental health theme lead for the NIHR MindTech HealthTech Research Centre, with research spanning neuromodulation and digital interventions in mood and anxiety disorders.

He led the BRIGhTMIND randomised controlled trial of TMS in treatment-resistant depression, and works across mood disorder patients, researchers, clinicians, industry, regulators and policymakers to push evidence-based neuromodulation further into reach.

Speaker Spotlight 💡 Tim Nicholls

The evidence for TMS, tDCS, esketamine and vagus nerve stimulation keeps building. Getting them into the NHS is a different problem entirely.

Tim Nicholls is National Implementation Lead with the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration Mission, where his job is rebuilding the clinical research infrastructure that gets mental health treatments into NHS practice. His current focus spans bupropion, TMS, tDCS, esketamine and vagus nerve stimulation, each with its own barrier: cultural, structural, or national.

To move them forward, he's engaged the Department for Health and Social Care, NHS England, national mental health charities, and his own MP. The scale of the barriers raises a question he's not shying away from: is the current NHS implementation system fit for purpose at all?

Speaker Spotlight 💡 Dr Hamilton Morrin

What happens when someone forms a delusion in conversation with a chatbot, not a person?

That's the question Dr Hamilton Morrin has built a research career around. As joint lead of LAMBDA (Looking After Minds and Brains in the Digital Age) at King's College London, he studies how interactions with AI chatbots shape users' beliefs, behaviour and mental health, work that's since made The Lancet Psychiatry, and been covered by the BBC, TIME, Scientific American and The Guardian.

He's also a working psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, a Wellcome Trust Doctoral Fellow, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists' 2023 Core Psychiatric Trainee of the Year. This year, he added the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology Fellowship Award to that list.

At Mind Forward London, he'll be part of the conversation on AI's evolving role in therapy, not the fear of replacement, but the harder question of what oversight actually needs to look like.

Speaker Spotlight 💡

Tachi Palace Fights champion. UFC flyweight title finalist. Fight of the Night headliner against Demetrious Johnson.

Then, after 16 years and repeated brain injuries, chronic pain and opioid dependence, a near-fatal overdose ended his career in 2018.

Ian McCall says psychedelic-assisted therapy saved his life. Now he's Founder and CEO of Athletes Journey Home, researching psychedelics for TBI, addiction and mental health in athletes, including a 2025 psilocybin pilot showing real improvements in brain function for athletes with long-term concussion symptoms.
He's joining us at Mind Forward London to talk about what real care for athletes with brain injury looks like.

AI has quietly become part of the mental health clinic as scribe, triage assistant and increasingly, decision support.

-26% of US psychiatrists now use AI for clinical notetaking, the single most common use (APA, 2026).
-Only 8% use it for diagnosis or treatment.

Regulators are catching up: the UK’s MHRA, the US FDA and the EU’s AI Act are each building separate oversight frameworks for AI in mental healthcare.

We mapped what’s actually being used in the clinic today, and where the evidence stands.
