This last week, I took time to process and reflect on the closing of this chapter in my life. On May 19th, I earned a Master’s degree in International Relations, with a focus on the well-being of women and children, particularly in the African diaspora. My intentionality—both in and outside of the classroom—led me down a path of radical love, not only for the flawed system and endemic injustice we reside in, but also for the beauty found in one’s purpose to change it.

This purpose fuels us through the despair we witness, for out of that, we can create hope and opportunities for others. Sitting with these lessons throughout class, living through major international shifts, and embracing all that DC has to offer, I sustained my hope for greatness and possibility. I found myself in the most profound way. Upon graduating from undergrad, I knew my journey of self-discovery had truly begun.

In the last two years, I have witnessed the woman I have always envisioned myself to be. At first, the shift began slowly, and then—suddenly—all at once. I showed up for myself, and in time, God revealed at each stage of the journey that they were listening. It was never a matter of if, but when.

As I continue to grow in gratitude for the pits and peaks of personal fulfillment—spiritually, physically, and emotionally—my dreams become more daring, bold, pure, and decisive. Because even through despair, I remain faithful and optimistic that the purpose will be worth it all.

Thank you to my DC community, SAIS, BSU, friends, and family for your love and acceptance throughout this chapter. I encourage everyone to step out on faith and find their truest self, for in authenticity, your wildest dreams can come true—slowly, and then all at once. taken in Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies by @mnsaddique
