Puppet mama, real babies! #OpuppetOpossums
This was such an awesome moment I got to experience thanks to the @wildlifefosterprogram, this weekend at @critterconca! These little babies are about two months old and recently orphaned 🥺 My @folkmanispuppets and I got to simulate the movement they’re already used to from being on their real mothers’ back. Thank you to all the vendors and visitors at CritterCon who helped raise funds for organizations such as the Wildlife Foster Program and other rescue groups 🐰 🦝 🐍 🐦💕 taken in Boys & Girls Club of Stanton by @moddypuppets

I’ve had some new followers join lately and it’s been a while since I’ve done this so I wanna reintroduce myself: My name is Marisol 🌊 ☀️ but I go by the phonetic spelling of my nickname, Mari, “Moddy”. I’m an educational puppeteer and ventriloquist in Sacramento, CA. On this account you will see handmade characters, tiny improvised adventures, behind-the-scenes builds, and the occasional puppet who definitely believes they run the account (they might be right).

I’m so happy you found your way here 😃 Whether you’re a puppeteer, a maker, a storyteller, or someone who enjoys puppets and the various puppetry arts, you belong here. 💛

Got to celebrate the @fairylandca Storybook Theater’s 70th anniversary with our @sfbapg people 🎉 It was a weekend full of puppets, crafts, shows, and laughs. This tiny clip hardly does it justice and leaves out so many of the wonderful people that made it possible. Tag em if you know em! And happy 70th to the longest continuously operating puppet theater in the US!

Should I have brought Big Mama with me? 😆 Apologies to those who have written Big Mama and had their mail returned to them. It’s all set now! #PuppetProblems #ClubSquatch #BigMama #BehindTheScenes by @moddypuppets

Playing with Lamb Chop today while taking photos of my new earrings from @femmedebloom sent me down a rabbit hole of memories and reminded me just how much Shari Lewis inspired me. 💕

I watched “Lamb Chop’s Play-Along” long past the age of its intended audience, and when I eventually discovered the handful of clips from The Shari Show floating around YouTube, I watched them on repeat. I was fascinated by her technique and amazed by the speed, and clarity with which she could switch between characters.

As a child, I loved the fun and whimsy she created. As an adult, I can appreciate the extraordinary talent, dedication, and artistry behind it all.

Thank you, Shari, for creating one of my favorite childhood shows, for showing me what was possible through puppetry, and for being one of the remarkable women who helped shape the person I am today. ❤️ #Ventriloquist #ShariLewis #LambChop #Puppets by @moddypuppets

What do you get when three animal loving California creatives combine their talents and interests to create a place to escape their own busy lives for a little while, despite living far away from one another, and they end up enjoying it so much they want to invite others to join the fun? 🤔
Club Squatch!
Eva @critterosity, Annie @anniemcbeth and Moddy @moddypuppets are the creatives behind the Club. Here’s how it went: in November of 2023 Eva hosted a pop-up event where Annie and Moddy ended up as booth neighbors, got to chatting, and shared a mutual love of Eva’s Squatch characters. In 2024, Eva and Moddy came up with the idea of a monthly zoom for crafting together with other creatives and ran it on the third Thursday of every month of 2025. In April of that year, the trio were invited to work an event together. They had such a good time and were left wondering how they could collaborate again in a way that could include others too. That’s when the wheels started turning in Annie’s head and the seed of an idea started taking shape. Over several brainstorming zoom calls where their inner child got to come out full force, Club Squatch was born 🎉
We invite you to be part of the fun, share your ideas, and help create the world of Whimsy Woods through comments, collaborations, and suggestions. You can even send and receive letters from Big Mama Squatch! We are still developing the characters and locations and would love to have you be a part of it 💕 #ClubSquatch #80sBabies #90sKids #CaliforniaCreatives by @moddypuppets

A belated Happy Dinosaur Day! 🦕🦖

My pandemic experience looked a little different from the sourdough baking and Tiger King binge-watching that seemed to define lockdown for so many people. Instead, it was marked by the unexpected creation of a virtual Dinosaur Club and an entire week of Zoom Dino Summer Camp. 👩🏻‍💻

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful to all the families who joined our club through Patreon. Your support helped both of my small businesses, @SparkHEP and @ModdyPuppets, weather an uncertain time and continue bringing educational adventures to kids when they needed them.

A huge thanks to @nunushi._ for all his drawings of Alexa the puppet interacting with our Dino of the month, and to all the artists who sent in their Dino art to be displayed in Alexa’s room gallery wall 🥰 #ForeverADinosaurKid by @moddypuppets

We may have been quiet around here for a bit, but the woods have been busy! 🌲 🍄 🐌

New characters. New stories. New adventures.

Club Squatch is growing, and we can’t wait to show you what’s been taking shape behind the scenes.

What have you been creating lately?
