Looks like another project I completed hit the market the week! I did all of the renovation of structures and @aperturedesignaz completed the backyard pool and pads. Looking good! by @modernbuilding

Well, this ole gal is changing hands and looks about as good as when we finished this build. I on the other hand have lost all of the color in my hair. Time does take a toll and a few of the signature steel pivot doors were rubbing on the overhang edge, which has settled slightly. We paid a visit today to make some clever adjustments and I’m happy to report that everything is functioning properly again! Also happened to time it just right to catch the famous sun sliver shot! #2302 #dwellmagazine #modern #mcm #historic by @modernbuilding

You guys, we are out here putting in the hours every day, every week and all the time!! So it’s a super rewarding experience to get noticed amongst so many other amazing talents who are all shining and hustling just the same! I’m humbled and grateful to be included in the upcoming issue of Sources for Design as an Icon….what??? It takes a village to pull any of this off so I’ll just be the honorary accepter, but seriously…too cool…thank you!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻 by @modernbuilding

Hallways. You never give much thought to the hallway, but you know who did? Blaine Drake. We are approaching the final push on an extensive renovation of the former Hawkins residence. This home is constructed of two overlapping arcs that converge at the entry foyer. The long radial walkways delight with punctuated slot windows casting portal-like shadows along the corridor. A variety of raw and pure building materials yields both necessary storage and passage, gracefully. You may see many beautiful kitchens and bathrooms on this app today, but here’s to the thankless hallways getting us back and forth to each. #mcm #mnml #modern #midcentury by @modernbuilding

Working late to get ready for tomorrow’s 5 AM concrete pour. Got the sandblasted Block Walls covered up with some house wrap for protection, wasn’t sure what the weather would be like so we built the roof system to give us best outcomes for the exposed concrete floor, steel base plates and posts have been painted to prevent rust and taking the final measurements for the depressed shower layout. Had to rush the tractor over there before sundown and move a giant boulder that will remain in an interior planter! Pics of that to follow. #mcm #arcadia by @modernbuilding

I never seem to have time to post anymore! Today I visited a project we finished in 2023, the former Deaktor Residence which is thought to be a Haver house. It’s always so nice to visit former clients and see how their spaces are evolving. Sadly, these agave will need to be replaced after this impressive bloom but I sure enjoyed the display today from outside and inside alike. Hope to schedule some professional photos soon to share our sensitive updates. #mcm #haver #renovation #agave #modernbuilding by @modernbuilding

New magazine Phx Style gave us some love with a cover shot and nice article by Nora Trulsson. Had a fantastic time working with Justin @hype__projects on this one!

Head over to their site and give it a read. Or just drool over the tasty photos by everyone’s favorite photographer @roehnerrr by @modernbuilding

Progress pics in 1963 would have looked just like these taken today at our Blaine Drake renovation of the Hawkins Residence at the base of Camelback mountain. And with some careful restraint to follow in his vision we hope the “after” pics will look much like yester-year as well. Pushing into the third phase of this project today with a pivotal improvement: finally pouring the garage floor, which will allow key on site storage and staging for the coming steps.

Happy Birthday Mr. Drake!
