Looks like another project I completed hit the market the week! I did all of the renovation of structures and @aperturedesignaz completed the backyard pool and pads. Looking good!

Well, this ole gal is changing hands and looks about as good as when we finished this build. I on the other hand have lost all of the color in my hair. Time does take a toll and a few of the signature steel pivot doors were rubbing on the overhang edge, which has settled slightly. We paid a visit today to make some clever adjustments and I’m happy to report that everything is functioning properly again! Also happened to time it just right to catch the famous sun sliver shot! #2302 #dwellmagazine #modern #mcm #historic

No historic homes were harmed in the making of this unapologetically modern bungalow. The house had already lived through a few remodels before this one, so the redesign wasn’t erasing pristine historical integrity, it was reimagining a home that had already evolved over time.

Huge thanks to @joelcontrerasdesign for letting me sneak an early tour of this wildly unique architectural experiment. I had way too much fun exploring it, and honestly, I’m a little jealous of whoever gets to call this place home.

The property offers approximately 2,360 total square feet, including a 1,600-square-foot three-bedroom, two-bath main residence and a separate 735-square-foot one-bedroom, one-bath converted historic carriage house.

This is the Dwell House or, Twenty three-02.
Designed in 2014 by @joelcontrerasdesign and @jonah_b_phx and built by @modernbuilding
This house is a quintessential red brick bungalow from the front but the back half is all glass steel and concrete. The home was basically rebuilt with all new roof framing and systems in 2014 and there is also a 735 sf casita that is two stories and was the old carriage house that has been reinforced with steel. The house sits in arguably the best spot inside the Coronado Historic District just a block from the center of the community with a restaurant and coffee shop at your beck and call. House features include custom steel doors and pivots and the unfolding nature of the house to its surroundings and vaulted tongue & groove ceilings and skylights and American walnut millwork with a teak shower and vanity. Entirely custom. Inpossible to recreate for anywhere near the list price.

Most people see the seamless floor-to-ceiling views in our finished homes, but they don’t see what it takes to get there. Between the specialized suction lifts and the millimeter-precision from the crew, there is zero room for a bad day.

I never seem to have time to post anymore! Today I visited a project we finished in 2023, the former Deaktor Residence which is thought to be a Haver house. It’s always so nice to visit former clients and see how their spaces are evolving. Sadly, these agave will need to be replaced after this impressive bloom but I sure enjoyed the display today from outside and inside alike.
