Calling all solopreneurs👋 Inquiring minds want to know. 👉Are you overwhelmed with the workload of two jobs? Three jobs? All the jobs???! I’m talking about the shite we have to do in ADDITION to what we actually do. Sometimes I just gotta ask WHHHHYYYYYYY?!!! 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Before social media I built my clientele entirely by word of mouth. But I get it. It’s a new world. Today, word of mouth is profoundly amplified by social media yet we are still bounded by the confines of social media. New platforms, constant updates, trends, algorithms, #hashtags 😰😰😱😱😱

Sometimes I kinda miss the days of having a website with a photo gallery that was updated once or twice a year..maybe. 🤭

And I know I’m not the ONLY one who has a love/loathe relationship with social media. Tell me I’m not alone. Please! 🫣

This is the beginning. A new chapter. Believe it or not, Theo had the most hair of any client I’ve ever worked on. The video just doesn’t do it justice. I was amazed when he lost zero length! 6 1/2 hours and I loved every minute of it. Ok I’m going to go lie down now and pass out. 🤣😴

Kate is has been a client for about 20 years. She’s also a friend. As is with most of my clients. Actually, I’d consider all my clients, my friends. After all, this is one on one quality time that we’re having. 😁

So a lot of stories get told, catch up sessions, updates and plot twists happen at every appointment. But what I love a lot is the playtime we get to have!
I get to make art while socializing!
How many of you have close ties with your hair care specialist? Whether it be your barber, braider, loctician or stylist?
I know all about my clients. And I become their biggest cheerleader! Because what happens in the chair isn’t just transforming your hair..is it?

When your client has been coming to you for more than half their life (and half of yours!! 😳😂), you become family. And regardless of not seeing each other for months at a time (in this case we hadn’t seen each other for 18 months!), picking up where we left off is second nature 🌿. I don’t meet expectations; I exceed them.

Omg where do I even begin with this one?! 🙈 My client thought this was going to be a long service — but to his pleasant surprise it took almost half the time, with better results and did NOT hurt. 🙌

These 100+ dreadlocks hadn’t been touched in about 8 months to a year, and honestly… whoever worked on them before failed as a professional. 😤 The work was minimal, but the pain (5 hours of it!) and the tension bumps that lasted for days? ❌ Unacceptable.

On top of that, there was zero clarity around process, policy, or ethics. I’m so sick of seeing clients mistreated like this. 😠

IF YOU CAN’T DO THE SERVICE, DON’T YOU DARE GASLIGHT THE CLIENT!

Just a little nudge to remind you. Modlocks is still here. Always working.

But apparently there are still people out there who don’t know the difference between good and bad techniques and when to say “maybe this isn’t the right technique for your hair type.”

Textures vary, density varies, lifestyles vary.

In the situation here, his locs were started elsewhere with traditional interlocking - which I have no issues with…unless, parts are sloppy and the interlocking just doesn’t do what you need it to do. Sometimes.. it’s just better to change the technique.

The last time I worked on his hair was almost 2 years ago. I assured him that this time it would take less time because I had already established the parts…

Well I ALMOST ate humble pie, but I managed to keep my word and finished his hair in 3 hrs. 1 hour faster than before.

I gently assured him that everything is fixable- but just maybe next time don’t wait so long between appointments. 🙃
