We’re here to bring a new approach to the art of grappling for those dedicated to the craft. Our hybrid curriculum, high level instruction, and strong culture create a home for intentional grapplers. By blending judo, wrestling, and jiu jitsu into a unified system, we help students to build a complete style of grappling. We give you the tools and the freedom to create a game that allows you to express yourself. Modo is a space where grapplers can find their own style. Beyond technique, our mission is to create a space with a culture of inclusivity, community, and a commitment to excellence.

Modo Grappling is here to modernize how grappling is taught. This academy exists to be the new model for grappling: unified, intentional, complete. Rooted in Chicago, built for what’s next. Modo is the premier grappling hub for hybrid training. Here to serve the competitors, hobbyists, families, and kids of Chicago.

Founded by instructors fluent in Judo, Wrestling, and Jiu Jitsu we’ve created a system for the modern grappler.

Ko Uchi -> Arsonist -> side control.
Judo -> wrestling -> jiu jitsu.

Here at MODO Grappling Academy we focus on creating complete grapplers that have an understanding of multiple disciplines and how to integrate them. taken in Chicago, IL by @modograppling

Grappling is evolving. Jiu jitsu, wrestling, and judo are no longer separate, they're one art. At MODO, we built a jiu jitsu class that reflects that. Visit our page to become a founding member. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @modograppling

Reverse Arm Spin aka Ushiro Seoi

No Gi Judo Curriculum for @modograppling

I started developing this move to counter when my D1-All-American coach would underhook snap when I had an OH. I then started refining the move to increase its use cases. Now I hit it whenever I'm able to get to my two on one or when I'm able to clear their under hook and bait pressure back into me.

Not for the faint of heart 🙇🏽‍♂️ taken in Chicago, Illinois by @modograppling

When wrestling in BJJ use these concepts to sharpen up your throw by. Combining all three of these movements really allows your throw by to beat their overhook and gets you to the rear body lock with ease. by @modograppling

Action = Reaction
For this sequence I use two different strategies to keep my opponent guessing. Gripping the collar with my left hand signals a left handed attack. Sharp pull signals a forward attack. This sets them up perfectly for a right handed backwards attack.
