The journey to launch @modograppling

Another day, another awesome seminar for the squad! Today we drove up to Evanston to work with @jasonraubjj89 The technique was focused primarily on heel hooks, ankle locks and Aoki locks using a variety of entanglements and off balances. While leg locks are a common subject whenever we train with Jason, it's always great to be able to see the latest innovations, ask detailed questions and nerd out over minutia. I'm sure we'll be drilling a ton of this material over the next few days. As an added bonus, got to reconnect with some old friends and training partners, though sadly time was tight and I wasn't able to get pictures with them all 😢 Once again, thanks to @serafinbjj for hosting! 🦥 You keep doing cool things and we'll keep showing up! 😎

The overhook arsonist is one of my top takedowns that sets up and informs the rest of my game. Check out Modo.plus for my full breakdown

One of my favorite niche attacks to pull off, overhook reverse arm spin.

No Gi Judo Curriculum for @modograppling

I started developing this move to counter when my D1-All-American coach would underhook snap when I had an OH. I then started refining the move to increase its use cases. Now I hit it whenever I'm able to get to my two on one or when I'm able to clear their under hook and bait pressure back into me.

Not for the faint of heart 🙇🏽‍♂️

Grappling is evolving. Jiu jitsu, wrestling, and judo are no longer separate, they're one art. At MODO, we built a jiu jitsu class that reflects that. Visit our page to become a founding member.

MODO's Judo program is built into our hybrid curriculum, meaning your progress in Judo counts alongside your Jiu-Jitsu journey. Earn a black belt in both. With one membership.

When wrestling in BJJ use these concepts to sharpen up your throw by. Combining all three of these movements really allows your throw by to beat their overhook and gets you to the rear body lock with ease.

Action = Reaction
For this sequence I use two different strategies to keep my opponent guessing. Gripping the collar with my left hand signals a left handed attack. Sharp pull signals a forward attack. This sets them up perfectly for a right handed backwards attack.
