Modular Masonry Group was established around a practical understanding of brickwork and a belief that real brick should remain achievable as construction methods continue to change.

Our expertise combines trade knowledge with brick processing, mechanical rail manufacture, product development, design coordination, prefabrication, technical support and installer training.

We work with architects, builders, developers, consultants, brick suppliers and installers to resolve complex façade requirements and create more adaptable, buildable and commercially practical ways to deliver real brick.

We understand the finished façade because we understand every stage behind it: the brick, the cut, the rail, the frame, the mortar, the detailing and the installation.

A closer look at the incredible curved brickwork at 17 Bennetts Lane, Melbourne.

Designed by FJC Studio, this striking entrance features sweeping brick arches and complex curves that flow across both horizontal and vertical surfaces, creating a beautiful sculptural façade.

Using genuine brick facings supplied by Modular Masonry Group for our lightweight Nexbrick system, the intricate brickwork was brought to life by Custom Clad, combining modern façade engineering with the warmth and texture of traditional masonry.

A beautiful example of how far architectural brickwork can be pushed.

How was this warehouse brickwork even achieved?

Sweeping curves, angled brickwork and complex architectural geometry. Not exactly your typical bricklaying job!

Traditionally, achieving these shapes would require extensive structural support, complex bricklaying and significant weight considerations.

With Nexbrick, we can take real bricks, precision-cut them into facings and mechanically fix them to our engineered rail system, creating architectural features that would otherwise be difficult, costly or impractical to achieve.

Who said industrial warehouses have to be boring?

At Austrak Drive in Somerton, sweeping curves, an overhead brick feature and rounded columns transform an ordinary warehouse entrance into something extraordinary.

With traditional brickwork, supporting the weight of brickwork overhead at this scale would typically require substantial structural steel and heavy-duty support.

Our lightweight, mechanically fixed brick cladding system makes it possible to achieve complex architectural curves and overhead brick features without the same structural demands of traditional full-brick construction.

Brick sites are looking a little different these days.

Bricklayers are getting harder to find, fewer people are entering the trade, and at the same time projects are getting tighter, faster and more complicated.

Off-site prefabricated masonry gives us another way to keep real brick part of modern construction.

With Nexbrick™, much of the masonry is prepared off or on site with less mess, fewer materials to manage, less reliance on scaffolding and a much simpler install once it reaches site. It also makes brickwork possible in tight or difficult areas where traditional masonry can be much harder to deliver.

There’s a big ergonomic benefit too. Less repetitive lifting, mixing and heavy manual handling means less strain on the body.

And you don’t have to come from a traditional bricklaying background to work with the system. People from different trades can learn the installation process without the same long pathway normally associated with becoming a bricklayer.

It’s not about losing the craft of bricklaying.

It’s about keeping real brick alive, opening masonry up to more people, and giving the industry more ways to build with it.

Real bricks are custom processed into corner and return pieces, allowing the brickwork to continue seamlessly around external corners, reveals and changes in direction.

And depending on the brick, we can process a single full brick to produce two corner returns maximising the original brick while achieving the depth and appearance of traditional masonry.

It means corners don’t have to become a compromise when moving to a mechanically fixed brick façade. The same brick, bond and masonry detailing can continue around the architecture, just delivered differently with Nexbrick.
