My new studio album, 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, is now out everywhere IN FULL 🧡 🤸 🥰

This is such a special day for me 🥲 I had to do a lot of growing to write this one, a piece of that is now yours to keep.

This record is written as a reminder to the self, on the ever-present nature of delight. It is a reminder to the self to firmly reject existence without it.

𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 can now be heard on all streaming platforms, and of course, you can get yourself a vinyl or cassette (shipping now, link in usual spot ! ).

I’m grateful to all the contributors, big big hug & congratulations to you all today. My album campaign has been only love, i’m humbled & glowing, and it just keeps getting better … thank you 🥹

As the year draws to a close, I’m reminded of something that often slips my mind: I released an album in March. Nine months feels so long ago — the record feels like a past version of me, embodied once but now, in parts, moved further from.

As I listen back to the music, I’m reminded of my obsession — Delight in the practice of pursuit — an explicit commitment to helm our sensorial practices in the present.

As I look at the imagery, I’m reminded of motifs — Water — cleanses, recharges, releases — a shower, a glass to drink, a tear — representing quiet rituals that shred our debris, our hazards of labour, collected while excavating day in & out. Water which enables us to enter our playgrounds everyday, afresh.

My thanks to @leavingrecords @matthewdavidmcq @daddykev @christopherbotta @zarasaraon john sampson for their contributions on Delight 🫶🏽 by @modularprincess

three desi women pushing the boundaries of what experimental music can sound like: @modularprincess, @slowspinspace, @miti__________

from hindustani classical traditions and modular synthesis to ambient soundscapes, unconventional song structures and electronic experimentation, arushi jain, miti and slow spin are each carving out their own sonic worlds.

three very different approaches to making music, all worth getting lost in.

Playing live at the guggenheim in manhattan this week, inside Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic, sweeping spiral !! I play 8 pm and @deliabeat plays right before me 🎶 Come !!

Wassily Kandinsky is perhaps my most favorite painter and the guggenheim has around 150 of his works there, including the famous composition series which i’ve gone to see quite a few times. in my head i’m playing this concert to him, he had synesthesia and explicitly mapped the spiritual affect of color to musical instruments, his examples on the next slide. Obviously he is restricted to the palette of western orchestral instruments he most frequented…I don’t have synesthesia but i most definitely agree colors have a sound and i often do implicitly meditate on this when im writing…ragas have very specific color associations & ragamala paintings are somewhat like a visual score exploring those. Bageshri, which my last record is based on, is an indigo and miya ki malhar is like black, green & gold. Ahir bhairav is more pinkish to me and desh an orange, green & gold. Deshi is like a gray, yellow & white. i’m gonna play some songs rooted in these.

My most favorite paintings by him are bleu de ciel & giallo, rosso, blu which are at centre pompidou in paris so hopefully they ask me to play someday too :)

All to say, come to the Guggenheim this Thursday evening x by @modularprincess

“ᴛᴏ ꜰɪɴᴅ ᴀ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ ʙᴇᴛᴡᴇᴇɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇᴅɢᴇs ᴏꜰ ᴍᴀɴʏ“

When we first heard Arushi Jain’s debut album on @leavingrecords , we were overwhelmed by an unorthodox and gorgeous sound. On songs like “My People Have Deep Roots,” you can hear the echoes of centuries-old Hindustani ragas alongside evocative synth melodies that reinterpret and also complement tradition. Included on many tracks, her own voice is an instrument of memory but also of exploration.

On Saturday, October 24, we are so excited to hear Arushi Jain bring these intimate sounds to the beautiful outdoor Ford Theater.

In addition to some of her now-classic albums, you’ll also hear Jain exploring aesthetics of dub, trip hop, breaks via drum synthesis, layered with compositions and poems from the Indian classical tradition as well as her own.

“I think I’ll be able to find a world in between the edges of many,” Jain told us. “I’m excited to sing for you.”

Read more about Arushi Jain below.

Jain is a composer, vocalist, modular synthesist and engineer, whose 2024 album Delight, named one of the best albums of the week and month by Pitchfork, Fader, Guardian, was a document of her efforts to cultivate joy through intentionally, and search.

A sense of timelessness, of creating and existing outside of rigid external definition, is an extremely useful framework for an artist like Jain, who lives between New Delhi and New York City, and pulls inspiration from her time spent in both of these cities, as well as a formative decade in the Bay Area. Her work draws as much from Indian classical music artists like Ustad Z.M. Dagar, Sharan Rani, Shiv Kumar Sharma and innovators such as Sheila Chandra, Terry Riley, Laurie Spiegel, Charanjit Singh as it does from artists like Kangding ray, Alva Noto, Donato Dozzy, Aphex twin, squarepusher, HTRK, Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star, Coil, to name a few. by @modularprincess
