Every single time I try to carry too much groceries in one trip, I hear my mum. “Don’t rush them, take two trips.”

My mother was never impressed by unnecessary struggle, she’d rather do a thing twice than watch it fall apart because she was trying to prove she could carry it all.

Lately, I’ve been noticing just how much of her lives in me. The way I wait for the “I’m home” text from someone I’ve been with before I fully relax, the way I can’t bring myself to visit someone’s home empty-handed (my mum would show up with biscuits, a tin of Peak milk, fruit, whatever she had). She taught me that generosity has very little to do with how much you own, but how you show up for others.

There was a time I resisted becoming her, now I know better. Becoming her doesn’t feel like erasure, if anything it feels like inheriting a language; one spoken through care, attention, and all the ordinary ways you make people feel they matter.

If you think you know coffee, wait until you taste Nigeria in a cup 🤎

@drinkbomacoffee is putting Nigerian coffee in the spotlight, and the brewing experience they put together is every bit as rich as the beans themselves.

From fragrant brews and bright, layered flavours to the satisfying ritual of pouring a Chemex, every moment invites you to slow down and get into the coffee rhythm.

To round things off, we took some of that hibiscus brew to the bar and turned it into cocktails. A 10/10 move!

I was also super stoked to see @barbara.onyejose ❤️

So, to all my coffee lovers, add this to your coffee must-do list. I promise you’ll leave with a whole new appreciation for Nigerian coffee.

Boma Coffee, let’s do this again! ☕️

So you never again mistake the fire for warmth. Maybe that’s what scars are for: proof that something hurt, and proof that you made it through so you don’t make it back.

I think growing up is one of life’s biggest scams. You spend your childhood desperately trying to become an adult, only to become an adult and start buying things that remind you of childhood. 😂

The hobbies, the interests, and all the random little things you thought you had outgrown forever. And then you realise you weren’t necessarily missing the thing itself, you were missing how it felt to be that version of yourself.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about this a lot, especially as I move through my thirties. I don’t want to spend the next ten years living on autopilot, only to look back at this period of my life and call it “the good old days.” I want to catch myself while the good is still happening.

I want to enjoy the place I’m in now, start the ridiculous idea, go somewhere because I can and just let myself be excited about something that has absolutely no practical value.

Because there will always be a future version of me who knows more than I do today. She’ll probably look back and understand some things I currently have no clue about. But I’d like her to look back at this version of me and think, “She really lived that one.”

I believe that’s the entire goal really; to have a number of good old todays before they become the good old days.

One of the most requested things I get asked to show is what my home café looks like, so here we go! 😅

It’s probably more stuff than I need right now, but I love that everything has its place and is exactly where I need it.

I also deliberately situated it around the dining area at home, so it gives me that little café-sitting vibe, and it’s where I make 99% of my coffee content and other personal content as well. See slides 5 and 6 for the full setup.

The second to the last slide was very first coffee haul; a birthday present from my husband in the year I started my coffee corner. He took me to @everythingbutcoffeebiz and basically told me to get whatever I wanted. That little haul was the beginning of what would eventually become my home café as you see it today. ☺️

I’ve definitely come a long way from where I started (see the last slide). And now, I’d love to help 3 people create theirs before the year runs out; from ideation to mood-boarding, down to carpentry, installation and sourcing everything for the space according to your taste.

It’s completely free for the first 3 community members. Just DM me “HOME CAFÉ” and I’ll work with the first 3 people who reach out.

Now tell me, what would you like to see next?

There are people who always seem to figure it out. They are what you might call “the plug” because they always know what’s going on, what needs to be done, and sometimes when they don’t, they know who to call.

They are the people everyone looks to for answers; the ones who somehow have a solution when everybody else is standing around confused. And honestly, they are exactly the kind of people you want in your life when you’re in a fix.

But there is something interesting that happens when you become this person for long enough. Eventually, everyone believes you’re good. Everyone assumes you’ve got it. And slowly, without anyone necessarily meaning to, people stop asking if you need help too.

The big lesson for these people today is to stop before they are empty. You do not have to wait until you are exhausted, angry, overwhelmed, or resentful before you decide you’ve given enough. You are allowed to keep something for yourself. by @modupe.ogun

Definitely let my thoughts run wild from slide 9! 😅

But seriously, why do we do this? Why do we see a recipe and immediately think, yes, we’ll be making this on a random Tuesday evening? Or save a workout routine and genuinely believe this is the one that finally changes everything.

Of course, we do go back to some of them, sometimes. But a lot of the things sitting in our saved folders have been there for months, maybe years even. Waiting patiently for a version of us that never goes back. And yet, we keep saving.

I’m starting to think maybe it’s not even about going back to these things. Maybe we just like knowing they exist somewhere within reach. Little possibilities we don’t have to commit to yet.

A new hobby, better routine, a dinner that takes 15 minutes but somehow requires seven ingredients we don’t have in our kitchen. Who knows?

Maybe one day, we’ll finally go through our saved folders and become all the people we’ve been quietly preparing to be. Until then, I think we should keep saving things. ☺️
