Today is World Diabetes Day. 💙
For many of us living with diabetes, it’s a day to celebrate, to raise our voices, and to be meaningfully involved in decisions that shape our lives. And it should be a day of celebration. Living with diabetes and advocating for change over the past decades is a milestone that deserves to be recognised.
But this day is also a reminder of something that cannot be captured in numbers or indicators: what it actually feels like to live with diabetes. Our fears, our small daily victories, and the invisible labor of staying alive – this is where the humanity of diabetes truly sits, and it is often what gets lost in policy documents, guidelines, and dashboards.
On this day, I am thinking especially of people living with diabetes in low-resource, fragile, and conflict-affected settings. Those who are fighting for their lives, struggling to access insulin, food, test strips, or a functioning health facility. Those who are forgotten when health systems are disrupted, when supply chains break, and when the world moves on to the next crisis.
My own journey with diabetes has not been easy. I now live in a country where my access to supplies is relatively stable – and I know how privileged that makes me, even when it is still a struggle. I cannot think about my present or my future without remembering growing up in Gaza, where access to my diabetes supplies was uncertain, and where staying alive was often a daily fight.
What is most meaningful to me is simple: diabetes gave my life meaning. It gave me a purpose, a community, and a responsibility. I will continue to hold on to that meaning and fight for it – not just for myself, but for the millions of people living with diabetes who deserve dignity, safety, and a fair chance at life.
Thanks to diabetes, I feel that I belong: to a community, to a family, to many others who share the same ambition and vision for a more just world for people living with this condition. by @moe.fasting

It took me a whole week to realize that I was not dreaming after I met the AMAZING @sairakhangallo and her lovely family last week in London.
We have known each other for almost six years now, and over the years, Saira has always been there for me to help, support, give advice, and chat if I need to vent.
She has a special place in my heart, and the smiles in the picture tell the story of this caption that I cannot write, showing how grateful I am to finally meet her in person.
THANK YOU for always being there for diabetes and in life🫂🤍
Till we meet again soon, Inshallah 🙏 taken in London, United Kingdom by @moe.fasting

Just returned from an unforgettable week at the @intdiabetesfed Congress in Bangkok 🇹🇭 — honored and glad to have played an active role and to represent not just myself, but the voices of many facing systemic barriers to diabetes care.

✨ I spoke at: 🔹 The Opening Ceremony, reflecting on my journey and the power of investing in young leaders. @youngleadersindiabetes 🔹 A Spotlight Session with IDF & Novo Nordisk, sharing the reality of insulin access in Palestine. 🔹 A session on diabetes in emergencies, calling for NCD care to be integrated into humanitarian response.

This week wasn’t just about policy or science — it was about people. About dignity. About equity. And the belief that those with lived experience must be at the center of change.

I have met so many lovely and inspiring health leaders, advocates, and professionals, and I look forward to further collaboration and building on our meaningful discussions. taken in Bangkok, Thailand by @moe.fasting
