OPEN CALL — POLATAR: Mapping Patterns
for @klfestivalmy

What does fashion look like beyond branding and spectacle? Fashion is often sustained by hands we rarely credit.

PolaTAR invites fashion students, graduates and self-taught practitioners to engage directly with garment makers in Jalan TAR , one of Kuala Lumpur’s long-standing textile and clothing districts.

Through on-site exchange, selected participants will work with tailors, textile traders and alteration specialists to translate lived garment practices into technical pattern works and a public installation presented during KL Festival 2026.

This is a guided exchange
working with labour, memory and everyday systems of making.

💰 RM1000 stipend (RM900 participation + RM100 materials)

“Legacy Unbound” channels Harajuku’s irreverent spirit through a Fall/Winter 2025 lens, merging bleached denim tie-dye, rustic-inspired prints, graffiti graphics, and frayed textures into layered, street-ready statements. Rooted in Rosmaini Sunarjo’s The Black Parade, the collection carries themes of migration, cultural preservation, and resistance, reflecting the resilience of Sabahan youth.
