📢 Our new national helpline for victims and survivors affected by changes to prisoner release dates is now open.

Being told someone may be released earlier than you expected can be unsettling, upsetting or frightening.

If you're worried about what the changes could mean for you, your family or your safety, you don't have to cope with this alone.

You can contact us for support even if you're not certain you're affected.

Our expert team can:

✅ listen to your concerns

✅ help you understand what the changes may mean

✅ offer practical advice to support your wellbeing and protect your safety

✅ explain next steps and how to seek further information

✅ connect you with ongoing or specialist support

We can't provide an individual offender's release date or case-specific licence conditions.

But we can explain where that information may be available and help you understand what to do next.

I witnessed the abuse of my mother throughout my childhood, and I’ve seen the damage it can do, so when I was asked if I would join Minister Alex Davies-Jones to talk about what steps the government are taking to combat the epidemic of violence against women girls, I couldn’t say no.

If someone opened up to you about abuse, would you know what to say?

We discussed the importance of getting that crucial first response right, and how we can all play a role in supporting victims and survivors.

Vote Dapo Akande for the ICJ. by @mojgovuk

Having someone there to listen, support and guide you through the justice system can make all the difference.

On a visit to the Victim and Witness Hub in Cambridgeshire Minister Alex Davies-Jones met the local people providing that support and shared why their work matters.

💬 “This sort of service is transformative for victims because they are listened to, believed, treated with dignity and respect. And this really helps them to move on after a trauma.” - Adam

💬 “We support victims from the initial report of the crime, supporting them through their initial practical needs and also supporting them through the court system” - Andrea

“I think by having somebody to listen to you, to support you - free from judgement, can help reduce the enormous sense of isolation that many victims experience following crime.” – Bianca

“I think having a consistent person that people that have been affected by a crime can speak to, throughout the whole process – from when they first report, all the way to court… can be really transformative for people knowing that they can be listened to throughout the whole process.” - Tom

💬 “It has been incredible to meet the teams who are working with victims and witnesses every single day, helping them, supporting them, providing them with information... The people working here know the area, they can help in a much more holistic way given what they know about the area and what services are available.” - Alex by @mojgovuk

What does the rule of law mean for countries around the world?

From preventing conflict to resolving international disputes, the International Court of Justice has played a vital role for 80 years.

Speaking from the UN in New York, the Lord Chancellor explains why its work remains so important today. by @mojgovuk

The UK is backing Professor Dapo Akande to become a judge at the International Court of Justice.

The Lord Chancellor met Professor Akande at the United Nations in New York ahead of the election on 3 November.

With international law facing growing challenges, Professor Akande brings the legal expertise, independence and judgement needed to help uphold the rule of law around the world.

Around 2 in 3 prisoners have reading levels below GCSE standard.

Improving literacy equips prisoners with essential life skills needed to secure employment, strengthen family ties and successfully reintegrate into society. By tackling one of the barriers that can contribute to offending, literacy can help create safer communities and reduce reoffending.

That’s why 480,000 Quick Reads books are being delivered to prisons across the country following the national campaign launch at HMP Preston with Prison Reading Laureate Lee Child.

Would you know what to say if your friend told you they were experiencing abuse? 💬

A group of creators and campaigners, including @freddiefraserr @jahmeneofficial, @goodmorningsis_, @sambrownex, and @sharongaffka, ask that same question.

Most of us want to help, but the right words aren't always easy to find. That's why we've launched a new tool called "How Would You Respond?" helping you navigate those conversations with confidence.
