@sappzine open mics at @moodswingbar are a vibe and you should come to the next one on Oct 8 ✨

It’s been fun to read new work and experiment a little with in progress pieces while hanging out with all y’all 🩷 I’m taking this whole calendar year off from submitting anywhere while I’m on maternity leave from my day job (don’t worry I’m still helping out for SAPP and The Sapperton Press) and I’m loving the lack of pressure and the space to try new things . Maybe I’ll break out my violin for an upcoming open mic 🎻 you’ll have to be there to find out

Kayla was my mentor during TWS and I would like to take this moment to draw attention to her work. Go support Kayla 🩷 Read her poems. Buy her books. Please having something good come from this. 🩷

No artist deserves the heartbreak of someone plagiarizing their work. I am sure there is enough blame being spread around so please just do better. Be better.

The below bio is from Kayla’s website https://kaylaczaga.com

“Kayla Czaga holds an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC and currently serves as the online poetry mentor for Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio.
Her debut collection, For Your Safety Please Hold On (Nightwood Editions, 2014) won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award from the League of Canadian Poets. It was also nominated for the Governor General’s Award for Poetry and the BC Book Prizes’ Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. Dunk Tank (House of Anansi, 2019), also a finalist for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, was described by David O’Meara as “sparkling with recollection’s rich details…exhilarating.” Her third collection, Midway, will be published by House of Anansi in spring 2024.
Her poems have appeared in Maisonneuve, The ex-Puritan, The Walrus, The New Quarterly, and have been selected six times for inclusion in The Best Canadian Poetry in English series. Individual poems have won The Fiddlehead’s Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize, ARC Poetry Magazine’s Poem of the Year Award, The Malahat Review’s Far Horizons Award for poetry, and CV2’s Lina Chartrand Award.
Czaga lives with her wife on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen People (Victoria, B.C).“ by @molinariwrites

📚 Enzo literally cries if we try and read him anything but Gossie and Friends books at bedtime so shoutout to Anne @kinderbooks2 for keeping me well stocked 😅😂

I swear I’ve been reading adult books too 😂 I’m usually a very fast reader so it’s been an adjustment actually reading the same book over multiple days/weeks and I’m kind of enjoying the slower pace.

In other news: Lots going on with SAPP, hyped to have volume 4 off to the designer, launched my new project The Sapperton Press, writing postcard poems to my friends and looking forward to a summer full of Open Mics 🎙️ ☀️ taken in New Westminster, British Columbia by @molinariwrites

Been reading a bit slow these days with baby but finally finished a few of the books I got on indie bookstore day! Some poetry, fiction, and essays 🌸

Writing in stolen moments these days. I haven’t submitted anything this year so far, but I’m working on a new full-length collection of poetry, some essays, and a short story that I hope will be ready to meet readers soon 🥰 I’m also launching my micro-press @thesappertonpress so please give me a follow on there ❤️

In bloom 🌸

Happy Mother’s Day weekend! Hug your babies and your mommas and your aunties and your besties and anyone who is a mother or mother-figure in your life 🩷

So much more in awe of mothers this year and excited to spend my first Mother’s Day surrounded by love and family and my babies (Gatsby 🐶 and Enzo 👶) . To my other booksta babes who are NEW mommas — you know who you are 🥰 — have a very special first Mother’s Day ! And to those who’ve been at it for a while, thank you for being such incredible role models and I hope you are so spoiled this weekend 🩷 taken in New Westminster, British Columbia by @molinariwrites
