Happy Birthday to the magnificent Mrs. Molly.

Life is :my people's koolaide:1 with you

You are my favorite person on the planet even when we don't agree. For instance, you share with me differing viewpoints.

You bring a comedic relief wherever you tread & have a dope way of seeing things that others cannot (including myself) and bringing them to sight.

I love that your athleticism has hit plenty of our kids and it's fun to see them experience a life that would be very different if you didn't work so hard in your adolescent days with soccer.

You are a community builder and I think that your skill set has a unique duality that enhances both the church and the state. Meaning you can go any place & leverage your skills to connect & enhance that community.

I love how hard you've worked over our last 9 years of marriage to get better. You've worked on your faults and have significantly grown in your maturity. I love that via the spirit of God when we are fighting we both end up obeying the guidance of the spirit of God.

I'll end with this, when it comes to being a woman that walks it out for God, I highly respect your walk. You've been a vessel for the LORD since before we were friends & the time we've spent together I've only seen you grow. Secretly over the last 9 years of marriage I've enjoyed the Godly wisdom that you've shared. Its :trap house:2!

Will the real Victor Yates please stand up.

The easiest dad to celebrate. He makes everybody feel like somebody. Our kids drip with unmerited confidence because their dad makes them believe they can do anything. Intentional, present, creative, patient, steady and unreasonably fun. Our lives are lived in neon colors, loud music, deep laughter and always a few minutes late because we get him. You’re a dream, Dad Vic.

Motherhood 🤘🏼

Every Mother’s Day I reflect on this old post of mine. My fifteenth Mother’s Day and it rings true as ever -

Motherhood uproots me. I am an expert in making sure my needs are met, and if they’re not, making sure people know it. It’s quite honestly at times the ugliest thing about me. And yet, it’s the one thing that motherhood consistently continues to chip away at. In some ways it happened in an instant when I became a mom and at the same time, it is a painfully slow, daily practice of saying no to myself so that others can flourish.

In a world overflowing with campaigns for self-care, self-fulfillment, and self-protection; motherhood is like a quiet, unglamorous, desperate-need-for-a-shower, rebellion. It’s the one thing in my life that I show up for daily with no expectation for a return on my investment - or in the words of the great theologian Tupac Shakur, “there’s no way they can pay me back.” I guess that’s kinda the beauty of it - a practice in the giving of myself for the well-being of another for no other reason than love. And somehow, in the laying down of my own life I come more alive. Imagine that, the tiny humans I made are actually making me more human. 🤟🏼 by @molly.yates

In the book of Exodus, God instructs Aaron to engrave the names of the twelve tribes of Israel into Onyx stones to place on his shoulders as ‘stones of remembrance.’ To remind God’s people there was a high priest who stood in the gap and interceded on their behalf, a reminder that God’s faithfulness to them is irrevocable. They would’ve been reminded of the Garden of Eden, when Onyx stone was used to detail the richness of the land where God’s presence dwelled. God has always been with His people, He always would be. It pointed to a much bigger story unfolding. A High Priest to come, who stands in the gap and intercedes on our behalf, a reminder that God’s faithfulness to us is irrevocable.

This month has been a stone of remembrance 🤍 sweet Onyx.

Two years of Sunday ☀️

The days that followed losing her big brother, almost eleven months to the day before her birth, were some of the darkest. One night when the house was quiet, I looked at Vic in the living room and said, ‘I just want to die.’ In Matthew 26, Jesus describes this kind of pain as his soul being sorrowful to the point of death. My God knew better than anyone what I felt like. And to know that He knew, that He saw, that He met me there, it would’ve been enough.

But in His kindness, He gave me her. My Sunday. Kinda like God sent a note to me, a living reminder that He is coming back, that this life is not the end of our stories, that one day I will kiss the face of a curly headed boy that looks way too much like his dad, all wrapped up in the sweetest, most joyful and lovable baby girl to waddle the planet. A local celebrity at her sisters’ school and track meets, and a fan favorite at every store, where any stranger who hears her name is Sunny says “yes she is!” Two years of the sweetest gift.
