🌿🌛PROJECT FEATURE: @molly35mm ‘Childhood Dreams’

This project was created during the decline of my health with ME/CFS, documenting how childhood dreams and aspirations can change so drastically when becoming physically disabled.

Reaching for stars and shooting for moons as they slip further away is a grief that is hard to verbalise. So instead, playful props, handmade costumes and the creation of a childlike world offered us catharsis on this day 🌟 model: @estiepesty

Some context 🖤
I have been living with worsening, undiagnosed Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) for years until finally receiving my diagnosis in June. I am now mainly bed bound and completely housebound. I went from a full-time science career, performing at festivals, travelling the world and spending lots of time with family and friends, to now lying in the dark for most of the day, in pain, mainly unable to tolerate light and sound. It is an incredibly devastating, lonely experience with gross medical/ societal negligence, leaving people like me without any cure or real support.

As my health declined I read so many stories from survivors who could no longer walk down the stairs or go outside, who lost their jobs, whose friends disappeared as they became ill. I was horrified, strongly believing this would never happen to me. But alas it has, and I am currently far from the most severe end of this illness. Because of this, I am so incredibly grateful for my amazing partner, family and the friends that have continued standing by/ visiting me during this time ❤️ We have learnt about ME together and I am so very fortunate to be loved and supported by them.

So, if you can do one thing today on Severe ME day, please take a moment to learn about ME/CFS! Make you’re sick friend a cup of tea, drop them a message, check in, spread the love - you could make the world of difference in the day of someone whose life has been taken from them by this disease 🙏🏽 I wish I knew more about it before I became sick! Let’s reject a society that is terrified of illness and avoidant of the disabled, illness is an inevitable part of all human experience, knowledge is power - be informed, be there ✊🏽❤️
