🌿🌛PROJECT FEATURE: @molly35mm ‘Childhood Dreams’

This project was created during the decline of my health with ME/CFS, documenting how childhood dreams and aspirations can change so drastically when becoming physically disabled.

Reaching for stars and shooting for moons as they slip further away is a grief that is hard to verbalise. So instead, playful props, handmade costumes and the creation of a childlike world offered us catharsis on this day 🌟 model: @estiepesty

This was my first ever self-portrait, taken last year in our little flat by the river 🙂‍↕️
.
I never really had an interest in self-portraits as Ive always loved photographing other people and the world around me so much more. But I've grown to love them since getting ill as it gives me a reason to pick up my camera whilst housebound. I've found catharsis in documenting how I am at that moment, how soft my body may look irrespective of pain, reminding me I exist now and existed then even whilst losing stretches of time in the outside world to the throws of chronic illness.
.
I'm so greatful to be here taking portraits and self-portraits alike and look forward to developing this more, but I think this one will always be special to me 🌞

Camera y lens: Canon AE-1, 50mm F1.8
Film: Ilford 400 & Kodak Portra 400
Photo locations: Bristol and Surrey, UK
Where I am from: I was raised in the countryside just outside of Brighton, UK. I lived in Bristol for many years and now live in Oxford. All of my homes have influenced my art.

I am an analogue photographer and I love to document femme, ethereal and magical stories. I am an Ecologist and Feminist, and lover of Folklore, Fantasy and Sci-fi, so the natural world and the strong women that live in it are very important to me. I believe film carries these values and interests most effectively through natural grain, rich colours and patience.

Year of the Rabbit
Bringing forth the coming of spring and the ending of winter with a celebration of the feminine. Celerating the Chinese year of the rabbit in 2023. A year of hope, longevity of life and a celebration of the yin. Yin (Yin Yang) represents the darkness, the feminine, the earth. May we embrace the darkness to bring forth the light.
Shot on Ilford 400.

Selkie Sisters
Dancing in the oceans sky,
The Selkie Sisters swim on by.
Tails twitch and flippers fly,
The endless song of ocean’s sigh.
Shot on Portra 400.
