The Painted Lady

What once began as a quiet fascination —rooted in my love of period pieces and a longing for slower, more connected times — has now unfolded into something far deeper.

I often find myself reflecting on what it would have cost to exist in an era such as the Victorian era. The answer, for me, is simple: my autonomy.

This series explores the transformation of a woman’s experience: from restraint to self-expression, from expectation to autonomy—with makeup as the language.

In the Victorian era, makeup was often seen as immoral or deceptive. Women were expected to embody a kind of untouched, “natural” beauty—one that was admired, controlled, and quietly confined.

The Painted Lady challenges and reclaims that narrative.

Through the application of makeup, we witness a shift—conformity softens, identity emerges, and expression takes its rightful place. What was once hidden becomes seen. Both physically and metaphorically—as what once lived within is given the freedom to emerge, through her own choice, her own expression.

Because the truth is:
you deserve to decide how you show up in this world.

This piece is not just about the past—it reflects something that still lingers today. In different ways, across generations and cultures, many women know what it feels like to be shaped by expectation.

This is an invitation to return to yourself.

To embrace your identity fully.
To express yourself without hesitation.
To remember that permission was never external—it has always been yours.

Trying to fit this day into just 20 frames doesn’t even come close. Took me more than an hour to select these and there are so many more to share!

The energy, the dancing, the music… it was nonstop from beginning to end. One of those weddings you can feel just being there.
