Seeing this announcement makes it feel real! 💙 I’m honored to be invited to present at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University for their Music Education Colloquium Series. Thank you to Dr. Rachael Brashier for this wonderful opportunity.
After a particularly difficult year health-wise, this feels especially meaningful. Chronic illness and disability continue to affect my daily life, and preparing for this special event has been a labor of love.
“Beyond Classroom Management: What Students Remember, Internalize, and Carry Forward” brings together my years in the music classroom and recent conversations with former students about what stayed with them. I’m excited to share their voices and explore how we create classrooms where students feel safe, known, and ready to learn.

Incredibly proud to share this fantastic episode of @wendelpatrickofficialmusic PBS show showcasing the groundbreaking new major at @peabodyinstitute. So excited to see our beatboxer @lizzyultrasonicnewell and their classmates in action and a fabulous interview with the legend @djbabuforeal When Lizzy was 10 we dreamed there would maybe be a Beatbox major for them. This first year in the program has exceeded our wildest expectations. World Lupus Day. May 10th. We “celebrate” by wearing purple, (our color) and brining about awareness about this autoimmune disease. Purple butterflies specifically so you can see my nails sparking conversation. That crate of medicine is just one of the many medication that are keeping me going for there is so cute. (Some in the fridge, some in the upstairs bathroom more in my purse). The medications saving my life have also caused some difficult side effects, noice the moon face and “body by Prednisone” in another World Lupus pic. But we keep fight Lupus and all of the other autoimmune diseases that seem to accompany it. One day there will be a cure. But for now, if you feel inspired to help the @lupusresearchalliance is a great place to start. And it’s time for Spring Cleaning so contact the @lupusorg and they do pick up for donation. 💜

Lizzy’s home for Spring Break and we were able to score some great discount tix from @todaytix and they were incredible! I’ve loved the musical @chessbway Chess since the concept album back in the 80’s in all its iterations. I’ve been waiting decades for a revival (some of you may remember our dear friend who we begged to sing “Anthem” for us) and swear I manifested this casting with @aarontveit as Freddy Trumper just to hear him sing “Pity the Child” (he’s my absolute favorite current Broadway Actor) and I still have chills . EJ and I had seen the show in previews and both loved it. I came away not only blown away by Aaron and @leamichele but witnessing the birth of the star that is Nicholas Christopher @nikriz was breathtaking. Seeing the show again, now that the company has had time to settle into their rhythm, I was even more moved, plus being 4 rows back, we got to experience so much nuance to the performances. And I always love to see a show through the eyes of my children. And you can imagine with Lizzy almost through their first year in music school that the conversations have a new depth and professionalism than when they were 6 and they just wanted to learn what to do to get on that stage. 😂. Counting down the days for the release of the full cast recording!

We had no clue Rebel could read until she rushed EJ as he carried in the new box from Barkbox. As she dug in imagine her delight - Squirrels!! (And my joy that they were “Golden Girls” theme. It warmed this Gen Xer’s heart Diamond and her sister Reb are, after all, Co-Presidents of the Squirrels are Evil and We MUST bark at the door if there has been a squirrel within 15 miles. Then spread the word to all fellow canines.🤷‍♀️🐿️.

SingStrong 2026 was one for the books! Two words-Pirate Beatboxer! Incredible variety and quality of ensembles including some of my faves, loved catching up with my SingStrong Family (just missed Lizzy off at school). Another amazing year singing with the Single Singers but perhaps the best was the unexpected reunion with my college chum, Bryan Chadima, who I haven’t seen in 30 years! It brought me back to sitting in Norris Center at Northwestern, watching Jonathan, Bryan and the rest of Blind Man’s Bluff performing- the group that ignited my love of a cappella music. And the bafflement that Lizzy is the same age I was when I met them! Damn, I’m old 😂. Took me a good week to recharge myself but it was worth every moment of gorgeous harmony, every laugh, and finally learning how to play Snaps! Until next year, my friends 💜

Seriously overdue post! Had a fantastic trip to Baltimore to hear @lizzyultrasonicnewell perform in two different concerts. Sunday Dec 7th, we had the absolute pleasure and honor of hearing the Peabody Institute HipHop Ensemble perform. What a joy to see Lizzy performing with such gifted artists in this way, with them being able to add their beatboxing art to the other musicians and create something truly special. They have found their place at Peabody and in the Hip Hop Department under the direction of the incredible @wendelpatrickofficialmusic. Can’t wait to see what the future brings! On Dec 8th, Pat, David, and I enjoyed hearing @thejhmentalnotes the hysterical comedy a cappella group Lizzy’s joined and is beatboxing and singing alto, and having a blast working with. Lizzy and I had an amazing time, at the 2025 US Beatbox Champs. So grateful to be back with our beatbox family and spend lots of time hanging with my fellow beatbox mom Celeste, and the amazing Timmy the Tyger. What a special honor to have Lizzy’s Beatbox Professor, Max Bent come up and spend the day on Friday then the Head of the Hip Hop Program, Wendel Patrick join us for the ending festivities on Saturday! Lizzy and I had a blast making connections between their beatbox family and Peabody’s groundbreaking new Hip Hop Major faculty. When Lizzy started out at the Champs 8 years ago, we all dreamed that there would be a Beatbox Major and now, Lizzy is that first one! So very grateful for everyone who has been there and is now there at the next level. The delay in posting is because I’ve been in recovery mode but it was totally worth every moment.
