Had an amazing time at the @nafme Eastern Regional Conference in Hartford, Connecticut. I had the honor of presenting a session with my mom @mommasonicbbx and Professor Tony Rideout, “Working With Your Queer Students: A 360 Perspective Teacher, Student, Parent” and assisting with their other session “The ABC’s of LGBTQIA+ for Music Educators”. I also got to attend some amazing sessions learning about movement, modern band, an awesome session on Hip Hop education by @misterwang2692 , and so much more. What a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so grateful to be a part of this.

#tbt to the first Lupus walk my family participated in - 2011. 💜Every year my family walks for the @lupusresearchalliance to raise money for a cure for Lupus, an autoimmune disease where the body gets confused and attacks healthy tissue instead of infection. My mom has been battling this deadly disease for over 10 years now and we walk to raise money so that one day there may be a cure. I even performed on the stage at the ceremony one year. It was a HUGE honor.

Today is a very special day. We get to celebrate our moms for all they do for all they do for us. I’m so grateful for my mom for everything she has done these past 14 years for me. She is supportive, loving, kind, and most importantly amazing. While yes we may fight about really stupid things (“I’m not going to brush my hair mom!!”) we still are always there for each other.
