In the second episode of the three-part series, @solestriders very own @mona.aaa_ takes us around the streets of East London, sharing the inspiration behind building an all-female running collective focused on friendship, connection and community.

"I just want people to have a great time".

Anyone who has met @mona.aaa_ knows this is true! ✨

A NHS nurse who originally found running as a escape from the pressures of her work, Mona went on to meet her best friend @najma.abdix at a running club.

Realising there was a gap in the London running scene for people that looked like them, the pair co-founded @solestriders - an all-female running collective focused on building friendships and empowering women in movement. And from there, the crew have been mainstays at running events across the capital. 💜

Self-described as East London to her core, Mona's first running event was the Big Half, which she took part in alongside her best friends. Fast forward to now, she is still doing the same. 👟

Finding community. Finding friends. It's what the Big Half is all about. 🙌🏿

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting a London Marathon Community Activation with @newbalancerunning & @reprunners

In the lead up to the marathon, this was the perfect event to come together as a community and for the runners to focus on recovery ahead of the big day

“Faith, sisterhood, and showing up. This is what Ramadan means to me.”

Mona is a Muslim woman and co-founder of @solestriders — an all-female running collective focused on building friendships and empowering women in running. Like many Muslims, she has been fasting during Ramadan.

For the second year running, @solestriders hosted an Iftar event at @houseofsportldn, bringing together their community who are fasting during this period.

On the 13th episode of the podcast, we speak to runners Najma & Mona. 👟 👥

Both advocates of “Run Clubs”, starting their running journeys in 2023. 🗓️ Two years in (2025) they have 4 marathons between them consisting of London, Berlin & Chicago!

My neck is actually sore from carrying this London Marathon medal!
What can I even say… London, you were unreal. I had the best family and friends cheering me on the whole way honestly, I’ve never felt so blessed and loved.

That was hands down the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Alhamdulillah for the opportunity, but yeah… never again!

The running community really showed up. The love, the energy, the support it was truly something special. Thank you for making this journey unforgettable.

Who would have thought?
Last year, I was spectating on the sidelines. This year, I was running the roads of London.
1. Dorsa The Ultimate Cheerleader
Truly the loudest, proudest, and most vibrant supporter out there. I’m so grateful for you walking with me when I wanted to give up.
2. Ayyeyo Showing Up The sheer shock of seeing her at South Quay! She wanted to open the barriers because I was so tired.
