The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild is hosting their 2026 quilt show this weekend!

If you’re able to attend, come by BOOTH 26 to say “Hello” 👋🏻 and be inspired to start a hand piecing project 🪡🧵 without time-consuming prep or papers to take out after stitching. I’ll have my PatchworkPlay Fabric Stamps, patterns and notions for a little retail therapy.

I have a free sample for you if you’ve always wanted to try hand piecing but never knew how to start. 😊

I’m looking forward to seeing “old” friends again and meeting “new” friends during the show. 😊

Happy mail today! 😁 Rancher Hubs ♥️ heard my hints 😉 for ideas for a present 🎁 for our anniversary/my upcoming birthday. 🎂
What a treasure this needle ring is from Jennifer Tull Westberg on IG @jennifertullwestberg and Etsy! 🪡♥️ It’s beautifully made, comfortable and a constant reminder of my passion for hand piecing. 🪡🧵😊
I tried to take pics of it on my finger, but, believe me, this Betsy Chutchian @betsy_chutchian fabric showcases it much better. Hand model I am not. 😂
Much love and thanks to Rancher Hubs for not only my beautiful gift but being my biggest cheerleader through the years with my hobby-turned-addiction-turned-business. Love you cakes! 😘 by @monaquilter

FINGER PIN CUSHION TUTORIAL

1. When I hand piece, my finger pin cushion is an essential tool. I’m often asked about it, and I want to share how I make them.
2. Cut a fabric square 3.25”. A lighter fabric shows pins better, especially the Karen Kay Buckley Shorter Perfect Pins I use (no affiliation, just a satisfied customer), but choose a fabric you love.
3. I mark an arch at 1 corner with a spool. Otherwise the pin cushion will be pointy on top.
4. Stitch around the outer edge with a seam allowance of 1/4”. I stop after turning the “bend” and restart 1” further down to leave an opening. Make sure to backstitch wherever you start and stop stitching.
5. Trim thread, points and excess fabric.
6. Turn pin cushion right side out. A chop stick helps push out the corners. Finger press around sewn edge.
7. Fill with poly fiber fill. A “purple thing” helps push the stuffing where it needs to go.
8. Begin hand stitching the opening closed farther away from the point using a ladder stitch. A clip helps hold the opening together when beginning to stitch.
9. After the last stitch, put the needle at point of the pin cushion. Bring together the 2 points and stitch together with 3 figure eight knots.
10. After the last knot, have the needle travel into the pin cushion and cut the thread. Voila! You have a beautiful and useful finger pin cushion for all your hand stitching. 😊
11. I’ll be teaching at The Woodlands Quilt Guild in September and Houston in November, so I’m working on restocking. 😉 I love offering different fabric choices!

Thank you Margaret @krausem478 for my sweet appliqué doll quilt with beautiful spring flowers!🌺

The low lighting in Pic 1 shows the hand quilting. 👏🏻 The goodies she included with the quilt (except for the fat quarter I’ve already added to my stash😉) are primitive RWB stuffed stars to celebrate America’s 250th bday, her note, and a Christmas ornament: an unbelievable hand-painted Santa 🎅 on a shell from her native CT shoreline! I wanted everyone to see the detail in the small piece of art. It deserved its own closeup (pic 3). The all-important label (pic 4) is so unique and a reminder to us all to be proud of our handwork and sign our pieces.

Thanks again Margaret, for your beautiful doll quilt which will be put on my vintage drying rack in my studio. 😉 Through our DM’s I feel like I have a new quilty friend across the US. 🥰

Thank you Linda @quiltsinthebarn for offering us this opportunity to connect with quilters worldwide we would have probably not met otherwise. 🥰 by @monaquilter

Thank you Linda @quiltsinthebarn for the opportunity to participate in the #dollquiltswap2026. The sweet 4-patch hexies were like some I made on the outer border of my Mrs. Billings. I may need to make a full-sized quilt with some. 😉
The hand piecing went smoothly; my quilting was the challenge. Even with the starts, stops and redos, though, it all came together.
I hope you like it swap partner! 😃 It’ll be on its way to you in the morning! ✈️ by @monaquilter

Happy New Year! I’m SEW excited to be participating in @quiltsinthebarn’s doll quilt exchange 2026.
I’ve been pondering pattern options, and after getting my partner’s name and stalking her IG account (not in a creepy way, just gathering intel😉) I decided on hexies.
Pic 1 was my original fabric pull, softer shades with that Jane Austen fabric for the background. After trying them out (pics 2 & 3), I decided the background was too busy and the fabrics for the hexie-fours (!?) were “meh.” Pic 4 shows the hexie-fours in more saturated colors that I am happy with.
Now on to the stitching… 🪡 🧵 👏🏻 Hope you like the choices, partner! I’ll be making a similar one for me too. 😊
