POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
As of now, we have many IG quilters around the world jumping on to recreate Susan Noakes McCord’s VINE quilt. This beauty, made c1880-1890, is from the collection of the Henry Ford. Sometimes called ‘the Sistine Chapel’ of quilts’, Fons and Porter Quilts of the Henry Ford book labels this quilt as FAT QUARTER FRIENDLY and INTERMEDIATE skill. I think most of us would think one of these labels are true. I’d add another label - endurance, if you opt for all 13 panels.

There are different levels of interest to simultaneously work on this quilt -
- some want to continue their work after setting it aside,
- some are interested but wondering if they can really commit,
- some are very close to finishing theirs,
- others have this on their quilt bucket list and just need a nudge to start.

Whichever camp you are in, I hope you join us….do what you can, when you can, and be sure to post the hash tags below so we can share our progress. That’s as formal as we will get. But most of all, encourage and help each other to be successful. And celebrate each leaf we stitch!!! Those tagged are in.

Personally, I’ve been dreaming about this quilt for years. I’m embarrassed how many times I posted ‘my must make quilt’ was VINES, but didn’t start. If I’m going to do it, I HAVE to start now. I achieved 70 last month (I’m boycotting ‘turned 70’, it sounds like sour milk or rancid) so this is it, while my fingers, eyes and mind still work. For me, this will be my “Mt. Everest” quilt project.

If you haven’t already, stop by Mary @maryelizabethkinch and check out her blog for 12 QUILTS OF CHRISTMAS this past December. Susan McCord quilts on steroids. The stories are wonderful, and transport you to another time. Makes me wish I could sit down with Susan over a cup of tea, and (watch her) stitch awhile. At the least, dream about them while sleeping under her quilts.

Happy stitching…..

It's time to stop all the holiday prep and make a festive little quilt. It could be a gift for you or someone really special. You know that someone...the one who gets really excited when you give them a handmade gift? Love those people.

Anyway, let's get started. This holiday quilt-along is a two-fer. That means there are two variations of a simple courthouse steps block and you can make them both using just four fat quarters if you arrange your colors in a similar way to the way I did it. In fact, you'll have fabric left over. Of course, you can get uber scrappy and I know that will be fantastic. Which version will you pick? "Baubles" or "Coffeehouse Steps?" Tomorrow I'll share a picture of why I chose Coffeehouse Steps for a quilt name.

Step 1: Cutting for Baubles
From red: Cut (1) strip 1-1/4" by width of FQ and subcut into (12) 1-1/4" squares
From white: Cut (9) strips 1" wide by width of FQ; subcut into (24) 1"x1-1/4"; (24) 1"x2-1/4"; (24) 1"x3-1/4"
From green: Cut (13) strips 1" wide by width of FQ; subcut into (24) 1"x2-1/4"; (24) 1"x3-1/4"; (24) 1"x4-1/4"

Cutting for "Coffeehouse Steps" is the same as the other quilt instructions but the fabric order is different.
From white: this is for the center squares. Follow the instructions for the red fabric above.
From green: follow the instructions for the white fabric in Baubles.
From red: follow the instructions for the green fabric in Baubles.

I hope this makes sense, comment or message me if you have questions.

Finished interpretation, using cottons, of Lucy Boston's, "The Silk Cot Cover".
Hand pieced using @youngatheartquilting
template quilt stamps. Machine quilted in the ditch to stabilize because Lucy Boston did not quilt her pieces.
