This Boonwurrung Week, we celebrate the deep connection between Boonwurrung People, Country and the changing seasons. The BOONWURRUNG SEASONAL CALENDAR offers a way to understand the rhythms of the natural world and recognise the knowledge, culture and continuing connection to Country held by Boonwurrung People.

As we move through the seasons, may we take the time to slow down, observe, listen and learn from the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we live, work and gather. by @monashuniversitypublishing

Hurt Kids, Sick Society.

Sonia Orchard (@soniaorchard ) is one of Australia’s leading experts on the neglect, mistreatment and harming of children. It’s harrowing and daunting, but when the wounds are life-long and the pain becomes cycles of abuse, it’s our duty to have the fortitude to really look at this terrible reality. Or just expect more of the same. We have a choice. Tune in.

What did it mean to be an ABC listener in the 1930s, or a television viewer in the 1970s? What were Australians expecting when they tuned into ‘Auntie’, whether in the living room or at the beach, in the city or the bush? How did listeners and viewers themselves shape ABC programming through their feedback, some of it solicited, some of it not – and how did management respond to their needs and aspirations?

Based on the ABC’s vast archives, including recently unearthed audience letters and call logs, this book illuminates the role of our principal public service broadcaster in the lives of generations of Australians. It focuses on the years of the Australian Broadcasting Commission: from its establishment as a radio broadcaster in 1932, to the launch of television in 1956, before its transformation into the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 1983. Covering a rich array of programming genres, from education to rural, current affairs to drama, and music to sport, the essays collected here range across Indigenous Australians, young people, migrants and ABC Friends.

Including insightful reflections from well-known broadcasters including Heather Ewart, Geraldine Doogue, Richard Glover, Robbie Buck and more, OUR ABC will inform, enlighten and surprise – just as ABC programs have for nearly a century.

With COP31 fast approaching, now is the perfect time to read Thom Woodroofe’s POWER, PROSPERITY & PLANET.

A key figure in securing the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change, Thom helped establish the High Ambition Coalition, bringing together progressive nations to push for greater climate ambition.

In his book, Thom explores why the next wave of climate and energy policy in Australia must focus intently on middle Australia – designing policies that make sense from the Cabinet Room to every lounge room across Australia.

As Australia prepares for COP31, the challenge is clear: building a future that delivers for people and the planet. by @monashuniversitypublishing

Catherine Gay’s AUSTRALIAN GIRLS is a powerful collection of stories that shines a light on the experiences, achievements and voices of Australian girls – reminding us that when girls are given the opportunity to dream, lead and be heard, they can change the world.

This International Day of the Girl, let’s celebrate their ambition, champion their voices and make space for the next generation to imagine what’s possible. #internationaldayofthegirlchild @drcathistorian by @monashuniversitypublishing
