POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is amongst the many fun and interesting events I participated in. We all represented a meeting of then Japan’s new movement of acid jazz and London’s birth of trip hop. Such an honor to be the sole woman at the event and one of the faces of that era. Flyer by the ever talented illustrator and artist @katsura_moshino Thanks @dj_asb_records for posting this nostalgic flyer! by @mondaymichiru

Yesterday’s Blue Note Tokyo Hit was so magical and heart warming. Intense gratitude to the warm and receptive audience, the brilliant musicians I am so honored to play with, @miss246 for putting this all together, and @bluenotetokyo for having me❤️ taken in BLUE NOTE TOKYO by @mondaymichiru

96 years old. A pioneer in opening jazz to Japan by being the first Japanese person to cross continents to the U.S., the jazz motherland, and creating her own unique narrative and adding to the great art form as a pianist, composer, arranger, and band leader. Watching her perform last night after Banksia’s firey performance honoring Miles and Coltrane, then their blues encore all together at the end was like watching a passing of the baton. This is without doubt the last time she will travel to Japan to perform. It’s bittersweet, and it’s been my honor and privilege to witness it all. #legendforever by @mondaymichiru

Bucket list checked! For too many years, I’ve been wanting to get a hat made by the uber cool, creative and wonderful @bonacapello, and commemorating 63/63 felt like the right time. Thom regaled us with humorous, quirky, sometimes harrowing stories, but when he would talk about the milliners he respected and learned from, and the history of the equipment and tools used, that’s where his pure love, respect and passion for the art of millinery became acutely focused and shined, just beautiful. @miss246 joined me on the visit and we both had fun trying on various hats displayed on his wall. Thank you Thom, and can’t wait to see what the final product will look like! Special thanks to @tabuzombie for the initial inspiration! by @mondaymichiru

We went to see Every Brilliant Thing last night with Tracee Ellis Ross (her Broadway debut), and wow, it was WONDERFUL! Full of humor and “awwww” moments. I like to go to plays not knowing what it’s about to get the full impact of the story telling, pacing, surprises with twists and turns, and it didn’t disappoint. I knew there was some audience participation, but not to the degree we witnessed (and it absolutely made the show, I won’t give anything more away). by @mondaymichiru

Super psyched for my upcoming hit at the Blue Note in Tokyo on August 25th. Great band with @junkeys @satoshiguitar @yoshihitokoizumi @tomogorilladrums . We should have called this the 63/63 or Birthday Live, but that’s what it is — come out and let’s celebrate, to life! by @mondaymichiru
