Part 3: New Jersey and God House: We start with Kerri Chandler, with the main focus on his vocal material. From here, we get to 280 West and their Phuture Sole imprint, Brothers of Peace. We go deeper into God House with Kenny Bobien. Kerri Chandler Talking of icons, next is another New Jersey House music king. Kerri Chandler is a key producer when it comes to Soulful House and House music in general. He is known for his bottom heavy production style topped with righteous vocals. Either his own vocals or those of others. Hailing from East Orange, New Jersey, Kerri was off to a winning start in the early 1990s with everything from raw bumping efforts like Atmosphere to singalong vocal winners such as Inspiration with Arnold Jarvis. 280 West and Phuture Sole 280 West is the production duo, originally comprised of Mark Mendoza and Gregg Hatten. Active since 1992, the NY/NJ outfit bring a Deep and really smooth Soulful vibe to the table. They have released classics like Scattered Dreams, Love’s Masquerade and Fly for Phuture Sole. There were other artists and records on Phuture Sole. A personal favourite being Working Underneath Feat. Libby Jones’ Speak To Me. The Camacho-Quentin remix works nicely. See also the phenomenal Casamena remixes of Monday Michiru’s Don’t. BOP Brothers of Peace (B.O.P.) are New Jersey’s Bryan “Shank” Thompson & Paul Scott. Very important in the Gospel end of Soulful House and just joyful records period. Able to go from God fearing organ romps you play to a congregation on a Sunday to absolutely banging vocal slammers. Kenny Bobien Now we come to a regular BOP collaborator in the shape of Newark, New Jersey’s Kenny Bobien. One of the Kings of Soulful House alongside the likes of Michael Watford and Arnold Jarvis. On the Gospel side of things, Kenny isn’t just King, he’s an ordained minister. Full article on the Freer Sounds website. #kerrichandler #kennybobien #phuturesole #brothersofpeace #soulfulhouse
